Chiefs Win Second Super Bowl In Four Years
Patrick Mahomes was magical when the Kansas City Chiefs desperately needed him to pull off another Super Bowl comeback. Playing on an injured ankle, Mahomes threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and scrambled 26 yards on the go-ahead drive before Harrison Butker kicked a 27-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to give the Chiefs a 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. The Chiefs won their second NFL title in four years and two-time NFL MVP Mahomes earned his second Super Bowl MVP award. Mahomes and Jalen Hurts excelled in the first Super Bowl matchup featuring two Black starting QBs. But Mahomes turned it up in the second half after reaggravating a sprained right ankle.
Lions Name Fischer Director Of Player Health And Performance
The Lions are adding a top rehab specialist to the organization. Brett Fischer announced on Instagram that he has been hired to be the Lions’ director of player health and performance. Fischer has been with the Arizona Cardinals for the past 15 seasons.
Report: Colts To Hire Shane Steichen As Head Coach
The Colts appear to have found their next head coach. According to ESPN, Indianapolis plans to hire Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as head coach. The Colts began telling some head-coaching candidates Friday that they planned to go in another direction and then notified more candidates Sunday. Steichen would become the second Eagles offensive coordinator hired by the Colts as their head coach. Frank Reich, who was fired by the Colts earlier this season, also was Philadelphia’s OC before being hired as Indianapolis’ head coach in 2018.
Bills Safety Damar Hamlin At Super Bowl
Damar Hamlin has made it to the Super Bowl. The Buffalo Bills safety made his third appearance in Phoenix during Super Bowl week, this time on the field at State Farm Stadium prior to Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. It’s another step in Hamlin’s remarkable recovery. It’s been a little more than a month after Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and needed to be resuscitated on the field in Cincinnati. He also appeared on stage at the “NFL Honors” on Thursday night.
Jets Ask Packers About Aaron Rodgers
The Jets are in the market for a veteran quarterback this offseason. According to ESPN, New York has inquired with the Green Bay Packers about Aaron Rodgers’ availability. The Jets have already hired Nathaniel Hackett, Rodgers’ former offensive coordinator in Green Bay, as their new OC. Jets owner Woody Johnson said after the season that he believed adding a proven quarterback is the missing piece to ending the team’s playoff drought.

The Pistons put up 41 fourth quarter points but it wasn’t enough as they lost 119-118 to the Raptors in Toronto. Bojan Bogdanovic dropped in 33 points to pace Detroit, which has dropped six of its last eight. The Pistons visit Boston on Wednesday in their final game before the All-Star break.

MSU Blows Out Ohio State
Joey Hauser scored 23 points to help Michigan State beat Ohio State 62-41, handing the Buckeyes their sixth straight defeat. Hauser sank 8 of 13 shots from the floor, including 6 of 9 from beyond the arc, and grabbed eight rebounds for the Spartans (16-9, 8-6 Big Ten Conference). Tyson Walker added 10 points and Jaden Akins finished with eight points and nine boards. Sean McNeil led the Buckeyes (11-14, 3-11) with 10 points off the bench. Bruce Thornton had nine points and five rebounds. Hauser scored nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range, Michigan State held Ohio State to 19% shooting in the first half and the Spartans led 27-14.
Northwestern Shocks #1 Purdue
Boo Buie scored 26 points, Chase Audige had 15 and Northwestern beat No. 1 Purdue 64-58. Led by its experienced backcourt, Northwestern added a signature win to its bid for the school’s second NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wildcats got their first win in 19 games against the No. 1 team in the AP poll. Zach Edey had 24 points and eight rebounds for Purdue, which had won 11 in a row against Northwestern. Braden Smith finished with 10 points on 1-for-7 shooting.
New Mexico State Cancels Season Due To Sex, Harassment Allegations
New Mexico State has called off the rest of its men’s basketball season after reviewing a police report that cited three players for false imprisonment, harassment and criminal sexual contact against a teammate. In a statement, chancellor Dan Arvizu said the action was needed after receiving additional details of reports related to hazing allegations against players. KTSM-TV in El Paso, Texas, obtained what it said was a redacted police report with none of the players named. The station said the report detailed the victim telling investigators that on Feb. 6, three members of the team held down the victim, removed his clothing exposing his buttocks and began to hit him in the buttocks, The victim also said the players touched his scrotum.

Scottie Scheffler Wins WM Phoenix Open
Scottie Scheffler is celebrating another victory at the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale. Scheffler finished atop the leaderboard at 19 under par after shooting a 65 in the final round. Scheffler has now won back-to-back Phoenix Open titles. Nick Taylor finished in second place at 17 under par. Jon Rahm finished three strokes behind Taylor for third place at 14 under. Justin Thomas was fourth at 13 under and Jason Day rounded out the top five at 12 under par.
