WMU Set To Build On Last Season’s Success

The Broncos of Western Michigan University began their first practice of the year with the mindset of continuing to improve on their recent success. The Broncos went from a one-win season two years ago to an 8-5 record the next year and a bowl game appearance.

One of the keys to Western Michigan’s success is sophomore running back Jarvion Franklin, who recorded 24 touchdowns last year alone. Franklin also set a handful of school records and gained national attention in his freshman year.

Second-year head coach P.J. Fleck had little doubt the Broncos would improve to where they are now, while starting quarterback Zach Terrell said that the team still has a long way to go before they are completely satisfied.

The Broncos will also be pressured to deliver on outside expectations this season. In Mid-American Conference’s media preseason poll, Western Michigan was picked to finish second in the West Division, just one point and three first place votes behind Toledo.

Western Michigan will begin their season on Sept. 4 against Michigan State, who is ranked No. 6 in the nation going into the season.
