NFL – Cardinals hire ex-Texas Tech coach Kingsbury
The Arizona Cardinals have dipped into the college ranks to find a head coach who can mentor young quarterback Josh Rosen. The Cardinals have hired Kliff Kingsbury, who went 35-40 in six seasons at Texas Tech before his dismissal last month. Kingsbury will be trusted to resuscitate the worst offense in the NFL, one month after accepting a job as Southern California’s offensive coordinator. Kingsbury’s Texas Tech teams were known for their high-scoring performances and featured current Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes (mah-HOHMZ’). Kingsbury was among the school’s most prolific passers, completing 65.4 percent for 12,429 yards and 95 touchdowns in 43 games from 1999-02. He replaces Steve Wilks, who was fired after going an NFL-worst 3-13 in his one season in Arizona.

NCAAFB – Clemson blowout draws lowest TV ratings for CFP title game
Clemson’s blowout victory over Alabama in the College Football Playoff drew a 14.6 overnight rating for ESPN across its multiple-channel broadcast, the lowest-rated title game in the 5-year-old postseason system. The third championship meeting of the Tigers and Crimson Tide, and fourth straight playoff meeting overall, was also the most lopsided CFP final. The ratings topped out at 16.2 in the first half when the Tigers extended their lead to 15 points. Clemson won 44-16, the largest margin of victory in a college football championship game since Alabama beat Notre Dame by 28 in the 2012 BCS title game. Last season’s Alabama overtime victory against Georgia drew a 16.7 overnight rating. Overall, the New Year’s Six games, including the Cotton and Orange bowl semifinals, averaged a 9.0 overnight rating.
