Tigers 1, A’s 0 – David Price outpitches Jesse Chavez as Tigers beat Athletics
David Price outdueled Jesse Chavez to win for the first time in four starts, and the Detroit Tigers bounced back from a shutout a day earlier to beat the Oakland Athletics 1-0 on Tuesday night. Price (4-1) gave up five hits, struck out three and walked one in seven innings for a third straight winning decision, but his first victory since May 2 at Kansas City. Former A’s outfielder Rajai Davis hit a sacrifice fly in the first against Chavez (1-5). Slugger Miguel Cabrera returned to the Tigers lineup after sitting out Monday and extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a ninth-inning single. Plate umpire Jeff Kellogg took a ball in the mask in the ninth but stayed in the game after being checked, and then a fan ran onto the field to cause another delay.

Blue Jays 10, White Sox 9 – Donaldson’s 2nd homer lifts Blue Jays over White Sox 10-9
Josh Donaldson hit three-run homer off David Robertson in the ninth inning, his second home run of the game, lifting the Toronto Blue Jays over the Chicago White Sox 10-9 on Tuesday night.  Donaldson also hit a solo homer in the first and went 4 for 4 with a walk and five runs for Toronto, which matched a season high with its third straight win. Donaldson has three homers in two games and five game-ending homers, including two this season. Jose Bautista went 3 for 4 with five RBIs in his return to the lineup after missing two games with a sore right shoulder, an injury treated with a cortisone injection. With Toronto trailing 9-7, Josh Thole singled off Robertson (3-1) leading off the ninth and advanced on Jose Reyes’ double. Donaldson followed with a drive into the right-field bullpen and was mobbed at home plate. Steve Delabar (1-0) pitched 1 1-3 innings hitless innings. Robertson blew a save for the second time in 11 chances, and Chicago lost for the eighth time in nine games.

Cubs 3, Nationals 2 – Russell double gives Cubs 3-2 win over Nationals
Addison Russell hit a game-ending RBI double in the ninth inning, and the Chicago Cubs beat the surging Washington Nationals 3-2 on Tuesday night. Chris Coghlan started the winning rally with a one-out single against Matt Grace (2-1). The Cubs then caught a huge break when shortstop Ian Desmond threw wide to first while trying to turn a potential double play on pinch-hitter Jonathan Herrera’s grounder to second. That extended the inning, and Russell lined a 1-0 pitch beyond center fielder Denard Span’s reach for his third hit of the game. That made a winner of Hector Rondon (3-0), who worked a scoreless ninth.

Tonight
Anaheim Ducks at Chicago Blackhawks, 8:00 p.m.                         (ANA leads 3-2)

NHL – Ducks Ds causing problems for Blackhawks
Anaheim stars Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler are drawing a lot of attention in the Western Conference finals. When the Ducks’ defensemen join the attack, it presents a big problem for the Chicago Blackhawks. The Ducks got four points from their defensemen in Monday night’s 5-4 overtime win, moving them within one victory of the Stanley Cup finals. It was their best total since their defensemen accounted for six points in a 6-1 victory over Calgary in Game 1 of their second-round series on April 30, according to STATS. If Anaheim’s blueliners come up with a similar performance in Game 6 on Wednesday night, that could spell the end for Chicago. But the Blackhawks believe they are going to bring their best performance of the series to date.

NHL – Blues retain Ken Hitchcock as coach for another season
The St. Louis Blues and head coach Ken Hitchcock have agreed to a one-year contract. The decision comes a month after the Blues were eliminated in the Western Conference quarterfinals following a successful run to the Central Division title. Hitchcock has led the Blues to the playoffs in each of his four seasons with the team, but the Blues have won just one playoff round in that span.
