MLB – Major League Baseball
Last Night
Detroit Tigers 11, Toronto Blue Jays 0
Chicago Cubs 6, Philadelphia Phillies 4

Tigers 11, Blue Jays 0 – Fulmer impressive again as Tigers rout Blue Jays 11-0
Michael Fulmer allowed two hits over six innings in another outstanding performance, and Justin Upton and James McCann homered to lift the Detroit Tigers to an 11-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. Fulmer (6-1) struck out five and walked three in his third straight start without allowing a run. Detroit has won four in a row. Detroit acquired Fulmer last year in the trade that sent Yoenis Cespedes to the New York Mets. The rookie right-hander has won four straight starts, allowing only one run over that span. J.A. Happ (6-3) allowed six runs and six hits in five innings. McCann’s three-run homer opened the scoring in the second, and Upton added a two-run shot in the third.

Cubs 6, Phillies 4 – Lester pitches 8 shutout innings to lead Cubs over Phillies
Jon Lester pitched eight scoreless innings, Jason Heyward hit a two-run homer and the Chicago Cubs held off the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 on Monday night. Lester (7-3) improved to 6-0 in eight career starts against the Phillies while lowering his ERA against them to 1.46. He struck out nine, walked none and allowed four hits. Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Dexter Fowler each had three hits for the Cubs, who won their 11th in 13 games while extending their best start since 1900 to a major league-leading 40-16 record. Adam Morgan (1-5) gave up three runs on eight hits in six innings to lose his fifth straight start. Justin Grimm and Hector Rondon combined to allow four runs in the 9th, but Rondon got Ryan Howard to ground out to end it and get his 11th save.

NHL – 2016 Stanley Cup Finals (Best of 7)
Last Night
Pittsburgh Penguins 3, San Jose Sharks 1                                   (PIT leads 3-1)

Penguins 3, Sharks 1 – Pens a step closer to 4th Cup
Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and had an assist as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Sharks 3-1 in San Jose to take a three-games-to-one lead in the Stanley Cup final. Malkin hadn’t scored a point in the series until he set up Ian Cole’s first-period goal and added a power-play goal that put the Pens ahead 2-0 in the second. Eric Fehr (fair) scored an empty-netter, Phil Kessel had two assists and Matt Murray turned back 23 shots to help the Penguins get within one victory of their fourth Cup.

NBA – Cavs in deep water
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love accompanied the team back home Monday after suffering a concussion during the first half of Sunday’s Game 2 loss to Golden State in the NBA Finals.  Love is in the league concussion protocol and has to be cleared in order to resume playing.  Game 3 is Wednesday night in Cleveland.  The Warriors have looked dominant in rolling to wins in the first two games of the series as they try to repeat as league champs. Golden State pulled off a 110-77 laugher on Sunday after a 15-point victory in Game 1.

NBA – Stephen Curry won’t be on US Olympic basketball team in Rio
Warriors guard and two-time reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry has he won’t play for Team USA in the upcoming Rio Olympics. Curry issued a statement saying he has decided to pull out for “several factors, including recent ankle and knee injuries.” The Americans also will be without NBA All-Stars Chris Paul and Anthony Davis as they seek their third consecutive gold medal.  San Antonio forward LaMarcus Aldridge has also pulled out of consideration for the U.S. Olympic basketball team after a finger injury late in the season.

Boxing – Doctor says Ali didn’t consider donating brain for research
Muhammad Ali and his family never seriously thought of donating his brain for research, according to the doctor who treated the boxing great.  “Not really,” was Dr. Abe Lieberman’s answer when he was asked Monday if submitting the brain for research was considered. Lieberman said he didn’t think boxing contributed to Ali contracting Parkinson’s disease but he couldn’t be “a hundred percent” certain.  The doctor spoke at a news conference at the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.  Lieberman was among those who diagnosed Ali in 1984. The doctor said he believes Ali had the disease earlier, when he fought Larry Holmes in 1980.

MMA – Street fighter and MMA pioneer Kimbo Slice dead at 42
Kimbo Slice, the bearded street fighter who parlayed his internet popularity into a mixed martial arts career and worldwide fame, has died. He was 42. Slice, whose real name was Kevin Ferguson, was taken to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, near his home Monday, Coral Springs Police Sgt. Carla Kmiotek said. Slice’s death was confirmed by Mike Imber, his longtime manager. “We lost our brother today,” Imber said in a text message to The Associated Press.  The cause of death was still unclear. Slice was a strip club bouncer who began competing in unsanctioned street fights in 2003. Videos of his savage knockout victories in the bouts became wildly popular online. He studied MMA and eventually competed in the UFC and Bellator, which staged his last two fights.

NFL – Bears agree to 4-year deal with third-round pick DE Bullard
The Chicago Bears have agreed to a four-year contract with third-round draft pick Jonathan Bullard. A defensive end from Florida, Bullard was taken with the 72nd pick after posting 178 tackles, 12 sacks, 33 1/2 tackles-for-loss and five pass breakups over four seasons. His 17 1/2 tackles-for-loss in 2015 were the most by a Gator since former Bear Alex Brown had 18 in 1999.  With the announcement Monday, the Bears have no remaining unsigned picks.

NFL – Goodell: No settlement in sight with Brady
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he sees no avenue right now for a settlement with Tom Brady over the New England quarterback’s four-game suspension in the “Deflategate” episode.  Goodell says the league will move forward based on whether the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decides to grant Brady’s request for the full court to re-hear the case. A three-judge panel from the appeals court in April reinstated Brady’s suspension that was handed down and upheld on appeal by Goodell. The type of appeal Brady is seeking from the court is rarely granted.

NASCAR – Kurt Busch conserves fuel and wins at Pocono Raceway
Kurt Busch stretched his fuel to the checkered flag and won the Sprint Cup race Monday at Pocono Raceway. Busch was urged to save fuel and go hard on the final lap. The 2004 champion did all he could to save fuel in the No. 41 Chevy and shut off the engine headed into the turns. Told he was two laps shy, Busch not only had enough fuel left to win his first race of the season, but he had more than enough for victory burnouts and a celebratory lap around the track. Busch won with interim crew chief John Klausmeier calling the shots as Tony Gibson served a one-race suspension. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was second, and Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott, and Joey Logano rounded out the top five in a race postponed one day because of rain.

Golf – Tiger Woods to write book on ’97 Masters
Tiger Woods is getting back to work _ as an author.  Woods is writing his first book since 2001, which is due out next spring. The book does not have a title yet, but it will be about his historic victory in the 1997 Masters.  It is scheduled to be released in hardcover, as an e-book and in audio editions in March, a month before the 20th anniversary of that watershed moment in golf. Woods is writing the book with Canadian golf writer Lorne Rubenstein. Grand Central Publishing acquired the rights to it.  Woods says his 12-shot victory that made him the first player of black heritage to win a major came in one of the most important tournaments in his life.

Fishing – Bait regulations seek to curb fish disease, invasive species
State authorities have put new bait regulations in place to try to curb fish disease issues in Michigan waterways and to halt the spread of invasive aquatic species. Bait now must be used within the same body of water, or in connecting bodies of water, where the bait was captured.
