MLB – Major League Baseball
Last Night
Detroit Tigers 3, Los Angeles Angels 0
Chicago White Sox 2, New York Mets 1 – 13 Innings
Chicago Cubs 2, Los Angeles Dodgers 1

Tigers 3, Angels 0 – Fulmer takes no-hitter into 7th, Tigers top Angels 3-0
Michael Fulmer took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and completed 7 2/3 dominant innings to lift the Detroit Tigers over the Los Angeles Angels 3-0 Wednesday.  The rookie right-hander shut down the Angels a day after they scored 11 runs on 17 hits. Fulmer (5-1) did not allow a hit until C.J. Cron’s broken-bat single on a 98 mile per hour fastball with two outs in the seventh. Fulmer allowed two hits, struck out eight and walked two. He has won his last four decisions and has a 3.24 ERA this season. Francisco Rodriguez got the final four outs for Detroit to record his 15th save.  Matt Shoemaker (3-6) allowed two runs in seven innings while striking out eight for Los Angeles.

White Sox 2, Mets 1 – 13 Innings – Albers’ 1st hit since 2007 leads ChiSox over Mets 2-1 in 13
Pitcher Matt Albers doubled leading off the 13th inning for his first hit since 2007 and scored the tiebreaking run, his first major league run, as the Chicago White Sox rallied past the New York Mets 2-1 Wednesday, helped by Todd Frazier’s major league-leading 17th homer. Albers (2-4) relieved White Sox closer David Robertson to start the 12th and led off the 13th in his first at-bat since 2009. With the outfield playing shallow, he lined a 1-2 pitch from Logan Verrett (3-3) to left-center, and the ball rolled to the fence on two hops. Unaccustomed to baserunning, Albers didn’t slide at second and steadied himself against second baseman Neil Walker to avoid coming off the base. A 33-year-old right-hander who has spent most of his career in the American League, Albers had been 2 for 34 (.059) at the plate in his major league career and had not even batted since 2009. He chugged to third on a wild pitch that went to the backstop and scored standing up on Jose Abreu’s sacrifice fly.

Cubs 2, Dodgers 1 – Lester leads Cubs past Dodgers 2-1
Jon Lester pitched a four-hitter for his first complete game of the season, helping the Chicago Cubs edge the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 Wednesday despite another lackluster night at the plate. The Cubs finished with just three hits against Mike Bolsinger and two relievers after they managed only one in Tuesday night’s 5-0 loss to Los Angeles. But one of Chicago’s hits was a long, two-run homer to center field by Kris Bryant in the third inning, and Lester (6-3) took over from there. The left-hander struck out 10 and walked none in his second straight win, settling down quite nicely after Kike Hernandez’s leadoff homer on his second pitch.

MLB – Tigers remove struggling Sanchez from rotation
The Detroit Tigers have removed struggling 11-year veteran Anibal Sanchez from the rotation. Manager Brad Ausmus said Wednesday he was making the move after the right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks Tuesday to the Angels. The 32-year-old Sanchez is 3-6 with a 6.67 ERA and has surrendered a baseball-high 14 home runs. The Tigers temporarily had six starters in their rotation, so there is no corresponding move to fill Sanchez’s spot. Sanchez has made 232 appearances in his major-league career, all but two as a starter. Ausmus said for now he will use Sanchez in low-stress situations to help the pitcher regain his form. Ausmus said returning Sanchez to the rotation is always a possibility.

MLB – Tigers call up reliever Bobby Parnell from minors
The Detroit Tigers have purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Bobby Parnell from Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers announced the move Wednesday as they put right-hander Warwick Saupold on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

NHL – 2016 Stanley Cup Finals (Best of 7)
Last Night
Pittsburgh Penguins 2, San Jose Sharks 1 – OT                           (PIT leads 2-0)

Penguins 2, Sharks 1 – OT – Sheary the hero as Penguins edge Sharks in OT in Game 2
The Pittsburgh Penguins are halfway to their second Stanley Cup since 2009. Conor Sheary scored at 2:35 of overtime to give the Penguins a 2-1 victory over San Jose and a 2-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup finals. Phil Kessel’s 10th postseason goal gave the Penguins an early 1-0 lead. But the Sharks tied it on Justin Braun’s goal with 4:05 left in regulation.  Game 2s of the Stanley Cup Final have traditionally been pivotal, and lately three periods haven’t been enough. The team that has won the second game of the seven-game series has ended up hoisting the Cup nearly 74 percent of the time since 1939, when the Final expanded to the current format.

A charge accusing Michigan redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Malzone of altering a driver’s license has been dismissed. According to the Detroit Free Press court records show the city attorney entered a motion to dismiss the charge Tuesday. Malzone appeared in court that day for his arraignment and pretrial hearing. Records show he admitted responsibility to a separate disorderly conduct charge stemming from the same day in late April and was ordered to pay $175 in fines and costs. Malzone did not play at all for the Wolverines in 2015.

NCAA Softball – No Florida means wide open WCWS field
Georgia upset two-time defending national champion Florida in the Super Regionals, immediately adding a layer of intrigue to the Women’s College World Series of softball. Georgia is the lowest-seeded team remaining in the field, but the Bulldogs take some talent into their opener against Florida State Thursday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. Three other games will be played Thursday in the double-elimination tournament that concludes with a best-of-three final. Michigan will play LSU. The second-seeded Wolverines, second last year, are the highest-seeded team remaining in the tournament. Oklahoma faces Alabama, which eliminated the Sooners in the Super Regionals last year. Auburn faces UCLA in a rematch of last year’s four-hour classic that saw the Tigers eliminate UCLA 11-10 in 10 innings.

NFL – Pro Bowl relocates
The NFL has confirmed that the Pro Bowl is leaving Honolulu for Orlando following this season. Officials say the league’s all-star game will be played at Camping World Stadium, which is formerly the Citrus Bowl, for the next three years. The stadium has recently undergone a $200 million renovation. With the exception of two years, the Pro Bowl had been played in Hawaii since 1979. The stadium previously known as the Citrus Bowl recently underwent a $200 million in renovations in hopes of attracting the NFL.

IndyCar – Indy 500 champ’s written excuse for girl who skipped school
Indianapolis 500 champion Alexander Rossi gave a junior kart driver much more than an autograph. Rossi’s signature was at the bottom of the handwritten excused absence he wrote for 11-year-old Ashlyn Speed to give to her elementary school principal. The young girl missed school Wednesday to attend Rossi’s appearance with Texas Motor Speedway season-ticket holders. She requested a written note from Rossi, who obliged by writing: “Ashlyn Speed from school on Wednesday because she is getting to meet the 2016 Indy 500 winner, Alexander Rossi. Ms. Moose, Thank you  for letting Ashlyn come.” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage then invited the girl on stage to participate in a ceremonial milk toast for Rossi.
