Lawton’s first home loss in five seasons hit a little harder following Friday’s game against Constantine. After Constantine defeated Lawton 22-10, Blue Devils Head Coach Wade Waldrup announced his immediate resignation. MLive.com reported that the decision was for personal reasons. Waldrup steps down not only as the head coach, but also at a teacher at Lawton High School. Waldrup was in his 5th season as head coach, and had an amazing record of 41-8 while with the Blue Devils. Waldrup helped lead the team to the MHSAA Division 7 State Finals in 2021, falling to Pewamo-Westphalia 14-10 at Ford Field. Offensive Coordinator A.J. High will take over control of the team ahead of Friday’s home contest against South Haven (1-2). Lawton was ranked #10 in the Division 7 state rankings that were announced on Tuesday.
