Romeo Lopez of Decatur High School Wrestling is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of January 7, 2018.
In the Raiders’ tri-match against Bloomingdale and Bangor, Romeo went 2-0 on the night, including a pin. Later in the week, he captured an individual championship at the Ravenna Tournament, going 3-0 on the day. After his performance for the week, he improved to 22-3 on the season.
Romeo is also a member of the Decatur football team. In the classroom, he carries a 3.24 grade point average.
Romeo is the son of Manuel and Jessica Lopez of Decatur.
Another finalist for the week was Grace Lyons of South Haven basketball.
