Paul Quantrill pitched six shutout innings Wednesday before leaving after a line drive hit him on the leg. He allowed four hits and a walk, striking out four. Three Cleveland relievers followed, with Emmanuel Clase pitching the ninth for his sixth save. With the game scoreless after five innings, Steven Kwan walked to start the sixth and moved up on Andres Gimenez’s base hit. Ramírez followed with a long homer down the right-field line.

Trea Turner homered and had three hits, Brandon Marsh also went deep and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago White Sox 5-2. Taijuan Walker pitched into the seventh inning. Turner hit his first home run for the Phillies with a solo shot in the first. The two-time All-Star singled and scored in the third and capped a two-run fourth with an RBI double against Tanner Banks. Walker gave up two runs and five hits in 61/3 innings. MLB – Oakland A’s purchase land for new stadium in Las Vegas
The Oakland Athletics have signed a binding agreement to purchase land for a new retractable roof ballpark in Las Vegas after being unable to build a new venue in the Bay Area. Team president Dave Kaval said Wednesday night that the team finalized the deal to buy the 49-acre site last week where the A’s will plan to build the stadium that will seat between 30,000 and 35,000 fans close to the Las Vegas Strip. The A’s will work with Nevada and Clark County on a public-private partnership to fund the stadium. Kaval said the A’s hope to break ground on the stadium by next year and would look to hope to be able move into their new home by 2027.

NBA – Dumars: Decision to suspend Draymond Green was ‘difficult’
NBA executive vice president Joe Dumars says it was a difficult decision to suspend Golden State’s Draymond Green for Game 3 of the Warriors’ first-round series against Sacramento. Dumars also says it was made with serious consideration of many factors. Dumars oversees the league’s basketball operations and sanctions for on-court incidents. Green stepped on the chest of Kings center Domantas Sabonis midway during the fourth quarter of Game 2 of that series on Monday night. Green was ejected for the play. The league escalated the punishment on Tuesday night.

NBA – Sacramento’s Mike Brown unanimous Coach of the Year winner
Sacramento’s Mike Brown is the unanimous winner of the NBA’s Coach of the Year award. It was an easy call after his first season in Sacramento saw the Kings make the playoffs for the first time since 2006. All 100 voters from a panel of reporters and broadcasters had Brown atop their ballot Wednesday. Brown won the award for the second time, adding this trophy to the one he got after he and LeBron James led Cleveland to a 66-16 record in the 2008-09 season. The other finalists were Oklahoma City’s Mark Daigneault and Boston’s Joe Mazzulla.

Golf – PGA – Tiger Woods has ankle surgery, rest of majors in doubt
Tiger Woods is recovering from another surgery. Woods has posted on Twitter that he had fusion surgery on his right ankle to alleviate arthritis from a broken bone. Most estimates on recovery are eight to 12 weeks. That would put into doubt whether he plays in the three remaining majors. Woods had a noticeable limp when he played in the Masters. He made the cut for a record-tying 23rd time. But he withdrew Sunday morning during the third round because of plantar fasciitis. The broken bone in his ankle stems from the February 2021 car crash in Los Angeles.

Texas cheerleaders shot after one says she got in wrong car
Authorities say a man shot and wounded two cheerleaders in a Texas supermarket parking lot after one of them said she mistakenly got into his car thinking it was her own. The shooting early Tuesday east of Austin was the latest in a string of recent U.S. shootings apparently sparked by someone showing up at the wrong place. Heather Roth says she got into what she thought was her car, but there was a man in the passenger seat so she got back into her teammate’s car. She says the man then approached her teammate’s car and opened fire. She was grazed and her teammate was critically wounded. The man fled but was later arrested.
