A month after Jeanine Wasielweski stepped down after one season to take on an assistant coaching position with Rutgers in the Big Ten.  Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac has hired Jay Jenkins as the new head coach of the Roadrunners Women’s Basketball Team.

Jenkins comes to SMC after spending the last five seasons as head coach with NJCAA Division 1 Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois.     Jenkins helped turn around a Kaskaskia team that went 5-23 in 2018-19, to 17-14 last year.

Prior to Kaskaskia Jenkins was a high school coach in Louisiana for two years and then restarted the men’s basketball program as Kansas Christian College in Overland Park Kansas for three years.  Then served one season as the men’s and women’s coach at Lone Star College in Houston.

Jenkins is originally from Louisiana and played basketball as Concordia College in Selma, Alabama, before moving on and graduating from Liberty University in 2013 and earned his master’s degree in 2015 also at Liberty.
