The semifinals are set for the 117th Western Amateur at Point O’ Woods Golf and Country Club in Benton Harbor.
Surviving through Sweet 16 and Elite 8 play yesterday were David Laskin, Garrett Rank, Ricky Castillo, and Daniel Wetterich.
Laskin scored a 2 & 1 win over Quade Cummins in the Sweet 16 then went on to beat medalist Davis Thompson 3 & 2 in the Elite 8.
Rank opened Friday’s play with a 2 up victory over first round leader Hidetoshi Yoshihara and followed that up with a 2 & 1 victory over Turk Pettit.
Castillo’s road to the semifinals included a 3 & 2 victory over Garrett May and a 1 up decision over Eric Bae.
Wetterich won his Sweet 16 match with a 2 & 1 decision over Everton Hawkins followed by a 2 & 1 victory over Frankie Capan.
