Derek Gribler of Lawrence High School is our Van Buren/Cass Male Co-Student Athlete of the Year winner.
Derek earned All-State honors in football. He was named the 8-Man division Player of the Year. He threw for 2,607 yards and 43 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,736 yards and 24 more touchdowns. On defense, he finished with 53 tackles and five interceptions.
In basketball, he earned All-Conference honors. He averaged 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals per game.
In baseball, he turned in a .480 batting average with 36 hits, seven doubles, five triples, 24 RBIs, and 35 stolen bases. On the mound, he finished with a 10-2 record with a 0.65 ERA and 95 strikeouts.
He was also a member of the Lawrence Track team.
