Wednesday’s district soccer match between Bloomingdale at Bangor was overshadowed by an incident near the end of the match. Bangor was leading Bloomingdale 3-0 near the end of the match, when an player from Bloomingdale ran up the field towards the center referee. Video of the match shown on the NFHS Network streaming service showed the unknown Bloomingdale player attack the referee before the camera suddenly pointed away from the incident at the center of the field. Video shows the Bloomingdale player immediately was surrounded by players from both teams and as the camera pointed away, the nearside assistant referee was also running towards the crowd where the attack happened.
The MHSAA will release a statement on the incident when they have received the report from the match.
