Laina Young of St. Joseph High School Swimming is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of September 17, 2017. Laina won the diving competition in the Bears’ meet against Mattawan. She also won the diving competition in their meet against South Haven. She ended the week by winning the diving relay with her teammate Kyleigh Meier at the Sturgis Relays.
Laina is also a member of the St. Joe Track team and National Honor Society. In the classroom, she carries a 4.23 grade point average.
Laina is the daughter of John and April Young.
Other finalists for the week were Ryan Haynes of St. Joseph Football and Andrew McLaughlin of Michigan Lutheran Football.
