Michigan basketball coach John Beilein is leaving the Wolverines to take the head coaching job with the Cleveland Cavaliers. It’s reported to be a five year deal.

Beilein has seen success wherever he’s coached. He has only served as a head coach, and his career has seen him guide teams at the high school level, then junior college, Division III, Division II, and Division I college basketball.

The Michigan Wolverines, under Beilein, have won two Big Ten regular season titles, two Big Ten Tournament titles, and have made two NCAA final four appearances, including playing for the national championship in 2018. In total, the Wolverines made the NCAA tournament nine times under Beilein.

Beilein’s overall college coaching record is 754-425, including 278-150 at Michigan. He now replaces Larry Drew as the head coach of the Cavaliers.
