Tigers 8, Indians 5 – Cabrera homers twice, unbeaten Tigers top Indians 8-5
Miguel Cabrera homered twice and drove in four runs as the Detroit Tigers moved to 6-0 for the first time in 30 years with an 8-5 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. Cabrera hit a two-run homer in the first inning off T.J. House (0-1) and J.D. Martinez added an insurance solo shot in the ninth as the Tigers finished off a series sweep, improving to 18-5 in Cleveland since 2013. Cabrera went 4 for 4 with the two homers, a double and single. Indians manager Terry Francona intentionally walked him in the eighth even though there was a runner on first. It’s the first time Detroit is 6-0 since 1985. The Tigers jumped to a 6-0 lead after two innings, giving Kyle Lobstein (1-0) a comfortable cushion. Joakim Soria worked the ninth for his second save.
White Sox 6, Twins 2 – Sale helps Chicago White Sox beat Minnesota Twins 6-2
Chris Sale pitched six solid innings in his return from a foot injury, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 6-2 on Sunday. Adam LaRoche homered for the second straight day and had a run-scoring single as the White Sox earned their second straight win after dropping their first four games. Alexei Ramirez also drove in two runs, including an RBI single in Chicago’s three-run eighth. Sale, who broke a bone in his right foot in an accident at home in February, threw 72 of his 98 pitches for strikes in his first start of 2015. The lanky left-hander allowed one run and five hits, struck out eight and walked one. Minnesota dropped to 1-5 under new manager Paul Molitor. Danny Santana had two hits, including an RBI double, and Phil Hughes lasted six innings after getting off to a slow start.
Cubs 6, Rockies 5 – Fowler’s homer off Hawkins gives Cubs 6-5 win over Rockies
Dexter Fowler hit a two-run homer off LaTroy Hawkins with two outs in the ninth inning, helping the Chicago Cubs rally for a 6-5 win over the Colorado Rockies on a blustery Sunday. Hawkins (1-1) hung a slider to Fowler, who drove it into the right-field seats. It was the first homer of the season for the former Rockies player. Neil Ramirez (1-0) earned the win by getting two outs in the eighth. Hector Rondon got his second save of the season as the Cubs won for the second time in the three-game series. With Colorado leading 5-3, Boone Logan struck out Miguel Montero leading off the ninth, and Hawkins relieved. The 42-year-old walked Arismendy Alcantara, struck out pinch-hitter Mike Olt and allowed an RBI single by pinch-hitter Wellington Castillo.

Golf – The Masters – Spieth completes amazing Augusta journey
Jordan Spieth has been fitted for a green jacket after completing one of the greatest performances in Masters history. The 21-year-old Spieth closed with a 2-under 70 to win his first Grand Slam title by four strokes over Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose. His lead never shrank below three shots in a final round that allowed him to finish 18-under, tying the Masters record score set by Tiger Woods in 1997. Spieth was in line to break the 72-hole record until he missed a five-foot par putt on the final hole. Spieth opened with an 8-under 64 on Thursday, allowing him to become the first wire-to-wire winner since Raymond Floyd in 1976. It comes one year after he lost a share of the lead in the final round. Craig Woods in 1941 is the only other Masters champion who led by at least three shots from the opening round to the trophy presentation. Rory McIlroy finished at minus-12 six shots back and one ahead of Hideki Matsuyama.

NHL – With playoffs starting, Blackhawks eye another big run
As far as Marian Hossa is concerned, the Chicago Blackhawks can capture another Stanley Cup. He envisions them putting aside their recent slump and making another big playoff run, starting with their first-round matchup against the Nashville Predators. Hossa says the Blackhawks have “a good group of guys.” Game 1 is Wednesday at Nashville, and both teams come in looking to put aside recent skids. The Predators, third in the Western Conference with 104 points, were 0-4-2 in their last six games of the regular season. The Blackhawks (102 points) ended an up-and-down regular season on a four-game losing streak.
NHL – Leafs fire GM, interim coach
The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired general manager Dave Nonis, interim coach Peter Horachek and his staff after the team’s worst season in almost 20 years. Nonis was dismissed with three years left on his contract. The Leafs went 30-44-8 with 68 points, the fewest in an 82-game season since 1996-97. Toronto was in a playoff position in early January when club president Brendan Shanahan and Nonis fired coach Randy Carlyle and replaced him with Horachek. The Leafs went 9-28-5 under Horachek, whose ouster was expected.

Pistons 116, Hornets 77 – Pistons roll in home finale, 116-77 over Hornets
Andre Drummond had 15 points and 19 rebounds, and the Detroit Pistons turned their home finale into a rout, 116-77 over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. Greg Monroe scored 17 points in what might have been his final home game at the Palace. Monroe is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. Noah Vonleh led Charlotte with 16 points. Drummond was dominant early, helping Detroit to a 30-10 lead after the first quarter, and the Pistons stretched it in the second. A jumper by John Lucas III made it 53-19 with 4:28 left in the half. At that point, the Hornets were 5 of 30 from the field. Jodie Meeks led the Pistons with 24 points, and Anthony Tolliver added 17. Reggie Jackson had 13 assists.

IndyCar – Hinchcliffe races to victory
On a wet track James Hinchcliffe cruised to victory in the IndyCar race in Avondale, Louisiana. The victory in the inaugural Grand Prix of Louisiana is the fourth of his career. Hinchcliffe, racing for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, pitted only once on Lap 13, and then spent much of his day leading the field around the NOLA Motorsports Park.
