Ish Smith scored 15 points to pace a balanced offense, and the Philadelphia 76ers snapped a four-game skid with a 94-83 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. Jason Richardson added 14 points for Philadelphia, which won for just the second time in 10 games. The 76ers continued to have success against the Pistons, winning three of four meetings this season. Philadelphia rookie big man Nerlens Noel left with 4 minutes, 27 seconds left in the third quarter with a right foot contusion and didn’t return. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 20 points for the Pistons, who have lost 11 of 12.
Bulls 103, Pacers 86 – Mirotic, Dunleavy lead Bulls past Pacers
Rookie Nikola Mirotic scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half, Mike Dunleavy added 21 points and Pau Gasol had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the short-handed Chicago Bulls to a 103-86 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. Mirotic, who played 31 minutes off the bench, entered averaging 20.3 points in nine games in March. His previous best scoring month was the 9.9 points he averaged in December. The Bulls (41-28) snapped a two-game losing streak despite playing without injured starters Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler and key reserve Taj Gibson. Solomon Hill had 13 points to lead six players in double figures for Indiana (30-37). The teams split the season series 2-2.
NFL – Mathis reaches 2-year deal to stay with Lions
The Detroit Lions have reached a two-year deal with Rashean Mathis, keeping the free agent cornerback in the Motor City after he started all 16 games this past season. Agent Doug Hendrickson confirmed the agreement Wednesday night. The 34-year-old Mathis has been a steady part of Detroit’s secondary since the Lions signed him two years ago. He had 42 tackles and nine assists last season, as well as an interception he returned 41 yards for a touchdown in an October loss to Buffalo. Mathis spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Lions.

Blackhawks 1, Rangers 0 – Richards, Darling lift Blackhawks over surging Rangers
Brad Richards broke a scoreless deadlock 7:19 into the third period, and the Chicago Blackhawks cooled off goalie Cam Talbot and the surging New York Rangers 1-0 on Wednesday night. Right after Rangers defenseman Dan Boyle rang a shot off the crossbar behind Blackhawks backup goalie Scott Darling, Richards got the puck in front of the New York net, waited patiently and snapped a shot past Talbot for his 11th goal. The Blackhawks stretched their winning streak to four and snapped the Eastern Conference-leading Rangers’ winning run at five games. Richards, a member of the Rangers last season, has five career goals against New York. That was enough to make a winner of Darling, who played for just the third time since Dec. 13. He made 25 saves to improve to 7-3 and earn his first NHL shutout in 10 career games.

NHL – Red Wings Datsyuk out two games
Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk will miss at least the next two games with a lower-body injury, coach Mike Babcock said Wednesday. Datsyuk has 23 goals and 58 points in 57 games this season. The 36-year-old missed the first five games of the regular season with a shoulder injury, and six of eight games with a sore hip in November. Also forward Darren Helm could back in the lineup Thursday. He has missed seven games with a strained oblique muscle sustained Feb. 28 at Nashville.
NHL – Red Wings assign Marchenko to AHL
The Detroit Red Wings have assigned defenseman Alexey Marchenko to Grand Rapids of the AHL. The 23-year-old Marchenko has played 12 games with the Red Wings this season, totaling a goal and an assist. The Moscow native has also appeared in 41 games for Grand Rapids, contributing two goals and 15 assists. Marchenko was picked in the seventh round of the 2011 draft. He spent parts of four seasons with CSKA Moscow in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League from 2009-13.

Tony Sanchez, Starling Marte and Willy Garcia homered to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates past the Detroit Tigers 8-7 last night. Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen missed his fifth straight game because of lower body soreness. Outfielder Jose Tabata fouled a pitch off his left foot in the third inning and left the game on a golf cart.
White Sox 9, Reds 4 – Beckham homers, hits 2 doubles as White Sox beat Reds
Gordon Beckham homered and hit two doubles to send the Chicago White Sox past the Cincinnati Reds 9-4 yesterday. Alexei Ramirez added a two-run double off Reds starter Jason Marquis. Geovany Soto homered for the White Sox. Marquis retired the first nine batters before walking Emilio Bonafacio and Avisail Garcia in front of Ramirez.
Cubs 7, Dodgers 5 – Coghlan homers as Cubs rough up McCarthy, beat Dodgers
Chris Coghlan homered and drove in three runs to lead the Chicago Cubs over the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-5 yesterday. Coghlan hit a two-run homer in the second inning after a two-run double by Albert Almora. Coghlan added a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

MHSAA – Michigan pilot program to offer sideline concussion tests
The Michigan High School Athletic Association plans a pilot program at some schools to provide concussion testing kits on the sidelines. The association launched new rules for football practices in 2014 that sought to reduce head trauma by restricting the length of practices and limiting the number of days where so-called collision practices take place where contact in pads takes place. Executive Director Jack Roberts tells WOOD-TV that the next step is having concussion testing kits on the sidelines. Players could read numbers off cards or an iPad, for example, and their times would be recorded during the preseason, after possible head injuries and after the season. Longer reading times could indicate a possible problem. Roberts says the association likely would give schools the option to use different tests.

Benton Harbor’s season came to an end with a 71-44 loss to Otsego in the Class B Regional Finals. The Bulldogs built an eight point lead after one quarter and steadily pulled away from there. Otsego had four players score in double figures, led by Chris Pearl’s game high 18 points. Tommie Miller and Jaton Gunn each finished with nine points for Benton Harbor who ends the season at 18-7.

Grand Rapids Northpointe Christian 62, New Buffalo 54
New Buffalo’s season ends after falling to Grand Rapids Northpointe Christian 62-54. Four players from Northpointe scored in double figures. Marquez Arts led New Buffalo with 15 points while Jarek Hotwagner had 14 for the Bison. New Buffalo finishes with a 16-8 record.
