NHL – NHL rescinds ban on rainbow Pride tape, allowing players to use it on the ice
NHL players will be allowed to use Pride tape this season after all. The league, players union and a committee on inclusion agreed to give players the option to represent social causes with stick tape during warmups, practices and games. It’s a change from guidance provided to teams earlier this season that banned players from using rainbow-colored Pride tape. That drew backlash including LGBTQ+ advocates and players, some of whom said they would use it anyway. Pride nights have been a hot-button issue in hockey since six players chose not to take part in pregame warmups last year.

NCAAFB – Tickets bought in the name of suspended U of M staffer to two SEC title games,
Tickets for the last two Southeastern Conference championship games were purchased in the name of a suspended Michigan football staffer who is the focus of an NCAA investigation into an alleged sign-stealing scheme. That’s according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to speak publicly about an open NCAA investigation. The person says electronic records revealed Connor Stalions bought tickets to the games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Records also show Stalions purchased tickets to games involving multiple Big Ten schools.

He moved his wife and five children from Miami to San Diego and planned to sign with an NFL team on the West Coast. When the 33-year-old Jones signed in April, he could not resist an opportunity to play in Detroit again. He had five catches for 35 yards in six games this season. Jones didn’t travel with the team to its most recent game in Baltimore.

NCAAMBB – Experienced, talented MSU gives Tom Izzo a chance to love his team right away
Tom Izzo has built a Hall of Fame career by being a hard-driving, tough-to-please coach at Michigan State. Izzo’s frank assessments of his teams over the last few decades, entering seasons and after games, usually are critical. Not this year. Izzo hasn’t been afraid to say he loves his team. The fourth-ranked Spartans will be led by experienced guards Tyson Walker, A.J. Hoggard and Jaden Akins that chose to return after entering their names in the NBA draft. Highly touted freshmen forward Xavier Booker and point guard Jeremy Fears are part of one of the country’s top recruiting classes.

NCAAMBB – Shrewsberry begins quest to turn around Notre Dame as he did at Penn State
Notre Dame freshman Carey Booth hears the whispers about this season’s low expectations. He, like the other Fighting Irish players, simply tunes it out. Notre Dame’s players are using it as motivation under first-year coach Micah Shrewsberry. Last season, Shrewsberry led one of the nation’s surprising turnarounds at Penn State.
