(5) Wisconsin 68, Michigan State 61 – Kaminsky, No. 5 Wisconsin beat Michigan State 68-61
Frank Kaminsky scored 31 points in his final home game, sophomore Nigel Hayes added 14 and No. 5 Wisconsin clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season title with a 68-61 victory Sunday over Michigan State. Kaminsky celebrated Senior Day with a dominating performance, going 11 of 17 from the field for the Badgers (26-3, 14-2). The Spartans (19-10, 10-6) trailed by 22 points before rallying in the second half. Bryn Forbes’ open 3 from the corner got them within 64-53 with about 2:30 left. But Michigan State had no answer for Kaminsky. He banked a short jumper off the glass for a 13-point lead with 1:52 left before blocking a shot on the other end to whip the crowd into a frenzy. Forbes finished with 21 points.

NHL – Stars trade forward Erik Cole to Red Wings
The Dallas Stars traded forward Erik Cole and a draft pick to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night for two prospects and a draft pick. The Stars got center Mattias Janmark, defenseman Mattias Backman and a second-round pick this year for Cole and a conditional third-round pick. The 36-year-old Cole had 18 goals and 17 assists in 57 games for the Stars this season. He has 262 goals and 264 assists in 881 games with Carolina, Edmonton, Montreal and Dallas. He was a member of the 2002 Carolina team that lost in the Stanley Cup finals to Detroit in 5 games. Janmark and Backman, both 22, have not played in the NHL. Detroit drafted Backman in the fifth round in 2011, and Janmark in the third round in 2013. They have played mostly in their native Sweden, and logged some time with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
NHL – Blackhawks praise additions, deny talk of locker room strife
The Chicago Blackhawks say newcomers Antoine Vermette and Kimmo Timonen are walking into a cohesive locker room. Unprompted, defenseman Brent Seabrook rejected rumors of discord among the players on the team, saying the group has never been tighter. He says the talk is laughable and there is nothing going on. Veteran forward Patrick Sharp, one of the players mentioned in connection with the rumored strife, says there are “no chemistry problems in the locker room.” Speaking after Sunday’s practice, Sharp also left open the possibility of taking legal action about the accusations on the Internet. The Blackhawks bolstered their defense by acquiring Timonen in a trade with Philadelphia on Friday, and then added another center when they acquired Vermette in a deal with Arizona on Saturday night.

DeAndre Jordan had 26 rebounds and Chris Paul scored 28 points Sunday, leading the Los Angeles Clippers to a 96-86 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Los Angeles trailed 86-85 when Jamal Crawford made a 3-pointer with 8:02 left. The Clippers never trailed the rest of the way. After a scoreless first half, Crawford scored 16 points in the final two quarters. The Clippers extended their winning streak to five in a row in Chicago, the longest in franchise history. They haven’t lost there since Dec. 17, 2008. Bulls rookie reserve Nikola Mirotic scored a career-high 29 points. He accounted for all but one of his team’s 17 points in the fourth quarter. Brooks finished with 14 points and Joakim Noah had 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Clippers improved to 2-1 on their four-game road trip. The Bulls lost for the third time in their last 10 games.

(4) Notre Dame 67, NC State 60 – No. 4 Notre Dame women beat NC State 67-60
Jewell Loyd scored 16 points and No. 4 Notre Dame played through a mistake-heavy performance to beat North Carolina State 67-60 on Sunday. Madison Cable added 12 points for the Fighting Irish (28-2, 15-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), who clinched the outright league regular-season title with the win. Notre Dame took control with a 13-2 spurt to blow the game open, keyed by three straight 3-pointers from Cable, and take a 15-point lead with about 10 ½ minutes left. The Irish finished the game shooting 54 percent, though their 21 turnovers helped keep N.C. State hanging around into the second half. Len’Nique Brown-Hoskin had 16 points to lead the undermanned Wolfpack (16-13, 7-9). N.C. State has been down to just seven scholarship players and nine total for the past month due to injuries, but hustled and scrapped to stay close until Notre Dame’s decisive run.
MLB – Chicago’s 1st black major league baseball player Minoso dies
Major league baseball’s first black player in Chicago, Minnie Minoso, has died. The Cook County medical examiner confirmed his death Sunday morning. Minoso homered in his first Chicago at-bat in 1951. There is some question about his age but the White Sox say he was 90. Minoso played 12 of his 17 seasons in Chicago, hitting .304 with 135 homers and 808 RBIs for the White Sox. The White Sox retired his No. 9 in 1983 and there is a statue of Minoso at U.S. Cellular Field. Minoso made his major league debut with Cleveland in 1949 and was dealt to Chicago in a three-team trade two years later. He made his White Sox debut on May 1, 1951, and homered in his first plate appearance against Yankees right-hander Vic Raschi.
MLB – Jays add to outfield depth
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed outfielder Dayan Viciedo to a minor league contract. The 25-year-old Viciedo hit 21 home runs for the Chicago White Sox last season while batting .231 with 58 RBIs. The signing comes five days after Jays outfielder Michael Saunders tore cartilage in his knee when he stepped on a sprinkler while chasing a ball at training camp.
NASCAR – Johnson wins in Atlanta
Jimmie Johnson has won the second Sprint Cup race of the season. The six-time Cup champion pulled away after a final restart with 13 laps to go at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The No. 48 Chevrolet was the fastest car on the track at the end of the weekend after the vehicle failed to get in a qualifying run because of inspection issues. It was the 71st victory of Johnson’s career, and his fourth in Atlanta. Runnerp-up Kevin Harvick finished 1.8 seconds behind Johnson. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was third, following by pole-sitter ahd Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano.
Golf – PGA – Co-leaders in fourth-round action
Paul Casey and Patrick Reed shared the lead when the final round of the Honda Classic was suspended at PGA National in Florida. Casey played the front nine at 4-under to get to minus-7. Reed had 12 holes remaining in his round when play was halted by darkness. Third-round leader Ian Poulter was one stroke back and two ahead of Phil Mickelson, Jeff Overton, Brendan Steele and Russell Knox. Players headed right back out to play as many holes as they could in their fourth round this afternoon. The tournament concludes Monday.
Golf – LPGA – Amy Yang wins Honda LPGA Thailand
South Korean Amy Yang has earned her second career LPGA title at the Honda Thailand, finishing two strokes ahead of third-round leader Stacy Lewis, two-time champion Tseng Yani of Taiwan and South Korean Mirim Lee. Yang closed with a 3-under 69 for a 15-under total. Lewis led after three rounds and remained in contention until she double-bogeyed 15 while Yang birdied.
