The New York Rangers have begun the machinations necessary if a trade for Patrick Kane were to materialize. They traded winger Vitali Kravtsov to the Vancouver Canucks and put forward Jake Leschyshyn on waivers on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023. That could clear the cap space to get Kane from Chicago. A former first overall draft pick is joining the Detroit Red Wings.  Multiple reports, confirmed by TSN in Canada say that the Detroit Red Wings have signed Patrick Kane to a one year contract for this season.

Kane, 35, was the first overall pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007, helped Chicago win three Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013, and 2015.    Last season Kane, who was in the final year of his contract with Chicago was traded to the New York Rangers before the trade deadline.

Kane finished the season with New York, but needed offseason surgery on his hip.   Kane did not sign with anyone while he was recovering and rehabbing after the hip resurfacing procedure.

Kane signs with Detroit, for the rest of this season, details on the salary are still unknown.  But Kane will be reunited with his former Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBrincat in Detroit.
