H.S. Basketball Recap From Friday

BOYS
St. Joe 58,  Niles 34
A strong third quarter propelled St. Joe to a 58-34 win at Niles Friday night.
With the Bears leading by two at the half, they scored 14 unanswered points to open the third and the Vikings couldn’t recover.
Izak Ruddell paced St. Joe with a game high 15 points, Cade Shimulunas added 12. Niles got ten points from Robert Brown.
With the win, St. Joe improves to 12-3 on the season and 6-0 in the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference West Division. Niles falls to 4-11 and 2-4 in the division.

Lake Michigan Catholic 62,  Covert 10
Lake Michigan Catholic pulled away early to score a 62-10 win over Covert. The Lakers ran out to a 22-5 lead after one quarter and steadily pulled away from there. Christian Monconduit led the Lakers with a game high 14 points with Matt Marzke adding 13.

Coloma 63,  Saugatuck 35
Coloma won the outright SAC Lakeshore Division Championship with a 63-35 victory over Saugatuck. The Comets grabbed a ten point lead after the first quarter. They maintained that advantage at the half and then steadily pulled away after the break to improve to 16-1 on the season and 11-0 in the division. Zach Goodline led Coloma with a game high 29 points. Saugatuck got 16 points from Teague Tiemeyer.

Marcellus 74,  Eau Claire 53
Marcellus dominated the middle two quarters to beat Eau Claire 74-53. With the Eau Claire leading by two after the first quarter, the Wildcats then outscored the Beavers 42-16 over the next two periods. Kaeler Stafne led Marcellus with 15 points. Austin Dohm scored 27 in the loss for Eau Claire.

Hartford 70,  Centreville 52
Trey Ackerman scored 17 points to help lift Hartford to a 70-52 win over Centreville. The Indians jumped out to a ten point lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Aaron Sinclair added 12 points for Hartford while Brandon Galvan and Evan Delarosa each finished with nine.

Gobles 53,  Martin 45
Gobles got by Martin 53-45. Peyton Autstin led the Tigers with 17 points, ten rebounds, five steals, and three blocked shots. Tyler Stedman added 15 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

GIRLS
St. Joe 53,  Niles 20
Anna Fischer poured in a game high 23 points as St. Joe scored a 53-20 win at Niles.
The Vikings held a two point lead after the first quarter, but the Bears gained a seven point advantage going into the half. St. Joe then outscored Niles 15-5 in the third to start pulling away.
Behind Fischer’s 23 points, Lyndsay White added seven for the Bears. Alycia Patterson scored 14 points in the loss for Niles.
The win lifts St. Joe to 15-2 on the season at 7-0 in the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference West Division. Niles falls to 7-10 on the season and 2-4 in the division.

Lake Michigan Catholic 53,  Covert 15
A strong second half led Lake Michigan Catholic to a 53-15 win over Covert. The Lakers led by 11 at the half, but went on to outscore the Bulldogs 34-7 over the final two quarters. Emily Lage paced Catholic with a game high 20 points. Laniqua Gray scored ten in the loss for the Bulldogs.

Lawrence 63,  Watervliet 57   OT
Lawrence got 28 points from Kaytlyn Tidey in a 63-57 overtime win over Watervliet. The Tigers trailed by one after three quarters but managed to force overtime and eventually earn their 8th win of the season.

Centreville 45,  Hartford 30
Centreville snapped Hartford’s ten game winning streak with a 45-30 win over the Indians. Hartford managed just four points in the second quarter as they fell behind 25-14 at the half. It proved to be too much for the Indians to make up the rest of the way. Jessica Cortes scored 12 points in the loss for Hartford.

Mattawan 45,  Battle Creek Central 37
An 18 point fourth quarter helped Mattawan pull away for a 45-37 win over Battle Creek Central. The Wildcats led by just five after three quarters, but finished strong to pull it out. Natalie Foster led Mattawan with 20 points.
