After six seasons, Western Michigan University has fired head football coach Tim Lester.  Lester took over the Broncos program after P.J. Fleck was hired by the University of Minnesota after the 2016 season.  Lester was 37-32 in his six seasons in Kalamazoo and helped the Broncos win their first ever bowl game in 2021 when they won the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit.  Western finished at 5-7 this season and 4-4 in the MAC-West.   He was 4-2 against arch rival Central Michigan, including a 12-10 in Mount Pleasant earlier this year in near whiteout conditions during the game.

Before becoming the head coach at Western, Lester was a player at Western, earning the MAC Freshman of the Year award in 1996.

Western Michigan has scheduled a news conference for Monday afternoon.
