MLB – Major League Baseball
Last Night
Los Angeles Angels 11, Detroit Tigers 9
Chicago White Sox 6, New York Mets 4
Los Angeles Dodgers 5, Chicago Cubs 0

Angels 11, Tigers 9 – Cron’s 2nd homer ends Angels’ wild 11-9 victory over Tigers
C.J. Cron ended the game with his second homer, and the Los Angeles Angels blew a seven-run lead before rallying for an 11-9 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. Cron’s two-run shot to left against Mark Lowe (1-3) was the ninth homer of the game in a park that isn’t known for power hitting, particularly at night. Cron also homered in the first inning of the Angels’ 17-hit performance during their ninth consecutive home victory over the Tigers. Ian Kinsler hit a grand slam in the seventh before Victor Martinez’s solo shot tied it in the eighth for the Tigers, who rallied from a 9-2 deficit in the sixth inning. Mike Trout hit a three-run homer and Cron drove in five runs for the Angels.

White Sox 6, Mets 4 – Saladino, White Sox rally past Mets 6-4 to stop 7-game slide
Tyler Saladino hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and the Chicago White Sox rallied from an early four-run deficit, stopping a seven-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 6-4 victory over the New York Mets. Todd Frazier’s two-run drive was his 16th homer this season, giving him the major league lead, and the White Sox got four innings of scoreless relief from their beleaguered bullpen to win for only the fifth time in 20 games. Neil Walker hit a two-run homer for the Mets, who led 4-0 after three innings. But rookie Steven Matz, trying to win his eighth consecutive start, suddenly faded in the sixth and gave up three quick runs. Melky Cabrera drew a leadoff walk in the eighth from Hansel Robles (0-3). One out later, Saladino sent a 2-2 fastball to left field for his third home run, putting Chicago in front 5-4.

Dodgers 5, Cubs 0 – Kazmir, Dodgers bullpen outduel Arrieta, blank Cubs 5-0
Scott Kazmir and two relievers combined on a one-hitter, matching zeros with Cubs ace Jake Arrieta before the Los Angeles Dodgers got to Chicago’s bullpen for a 5-0 victory Tuesday night.  Arrieta went seven scoreless innings, but was denied his 21st consecutive victory. The Cubs had won in Arrieta’s last 23 starts. Cubs left-hander Clayton Richard (0-1) gave up three straight singles to lefties in the eighth, the last Adrian Gonzalez’s liner to left that scored Chase Utley and ended the Dodgers’ 16-inning scoreless streak. Corey Seager hit a three-run homer off Trevor Cahill in the ninth. Joe Blanton (3-2) struck out three in two perfect innings as the Dodgers snapped the Cubs’ six-game winning streak. Kazmir allowed a single and a walk with seven strikeouts in six innings. Adam Liberatore struck out one in a perfect ninth.

MLB – Tigers closer Rodriguez says he contracted Zika virus
Detroit Tigers closer Francisco Rodriguez says he contracted the Zika virus over the offseason in his home country of Venezuela and advises potential Olympic athletes to educate themselves on the virus before heading to Rio de Janeiro. Rodriguez told ESPN.com on Tuesday that he wouldn’t blame athletes for skipping the Olympics, and that “if they have plans to have kids in the future, you’ve got to think about it.” Zika is a mosquito-borne virus linked to severe birth defects and possible neurological problems in adults. Rodriguez says he was bedridden for about two weeks with head and body aches, sore joints and other symptoms. It felt like he had a cold at first, but as symptoms worsened, he went for bloodwork that determined it was Zika. It took about two months until he felt normal again.

NCAA Football – Alabama’s Nick Saban wants a college football commissioner
Alabama coach Nick Saban wants a college football commissioner. Speaking at the Southeastern Conference annual meetings Tuesday, Saban said satellite camps are “bad for college football” and added “there needs to be somebody that looks out for what’s best for the game, not what’s best for the Big Ten or what’s best for the SEC or what’s best for Jim Harbaugh, but what’s best for the game of college football _ the integrity of the game, the coaches, the players and the people that play it. That’s bigger than all of this.” Saban says each of the Power Five conferences continue to politick for what they want, often creating the kind of chaos that surrounded satellite camps earlier this year.

NFL – Detroit TE Wright goes on injured reserve with knee injury
The Detroit Lions say tight end Tim Wright has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and has been put on injured reserve. Detroit acquired Wright in 2015 in a trade from Tampa Bay. He appeared in nine games for the Lions last season, making one start, and he caught nine passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns.  The Lions announced Wright’s injury status Tuesday. For his career, Wright has started 11 of his 41 games. He has 89 receptions for 907 yards and 13 touchdowns.

It looks like the NFL is moving the Pro Bowl from Honolulu to Orlando. Three people with knowledge of the negotiations have told The Associated Press that an announcement will be made Wednesday.  The game will be played at Camping World Stadium, formerly the Citrus Bowl. Orlando beat out Honolulu, Houston and Sydney for the right to host the all-star game.

She already owns NCAA career records in runs (300) and grand slams (11) and has 301 career hits and 304 career RBIs. She helped lead Michigan to its 12th NCAA Women’s College World Series. The award was announced on Tuesday. The other finalists were Auburn’s Kasey Cooper and Florida’s Aleshia Ocasio.

Tennis – Rain shuts down play in Paris
For the second straight day, play at the French Open was disrupted and eventually called off because of heavy rain. Very few matches were completed, causing an even bigger backup to the schedule. Two of the higher women’s seeds were ousted in the rain. Second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska (ahg-nee-ESH’-kuh rahd-VAHN’-skuh) was a loser to unseeded Tsvetana Pironkova 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. And sixth seed Simona Halep (HAL’-ehp) was beaten by Sam Stosur. Afterward, both Radwanska and Halep ripped tournament officials for being made to play in the rain. In men’s play, top seed Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) was unable to complete his match with No. 14 Roberto Bautista Agut (ah-GOO’). Djokovic led 3-6, 6-4, 4-1 when play was halted. That match is slated to resume on Wednesday. Second seed Andy Murray and No. 3 Stan Wawrinka (vah-VRIHN’-kuh) are part of Wednesday’s schedule, as are women’s top seed Serena Williams and No. 4 Garbine Muguruza (gahr-BEE’-nuh muh-guh-ROO’-thuh).

NCAA Basketball – Michigan State announces incoming graduate transfer
Former UNLV forward Ben Carter is joining Michigan State’s basketball team for the 2016-17 season as a graduate transfer. The Spartans announced the move Tuesday. He appeared in 22 games and made seven starts before a season-ending knee injury Jan. 30.  Carter sat out the 2014-15 season as a redshirt after transferring to UNLV from Oregon.
