MLB – Major League Baseball
Last Night
Detroit Tigers 7, Minnesota Twins 2
Houston Astros 6, Chicago White Sox 5 – 11 innings
Milwaukee Brewers 4, Chicago Cubs 2

Tigers 7, Twins 2 – Tigers score 7 in 7th inning, beat Minnesota 7-2
Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez hit consecutive homers during a seven-run seventh inning, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 7-2 on Tuesday night as manager Brad Ausmus served a one-game suspension. Jose Iglesias hit a tiebreaking two-run single for the Tigers, who have won three straight after losing 11 of their previous 12. Ausmus was suspended one game for his tirade Monday, when he was ejected during Detroit’s 10-8 win, but since their manager’s frustration boiled over, the Tigers have enjoyed mostly positive developments on the field. Minnesota’s Phil Hughes took a shutout into the seventh but was lifted after allowing Miguel Cabrera’s triple and Victor Martinez’s sacrifice fly. The Twins needed three relievers to get the final two outs of the inning as Detroit broke through in a big way. Kyle Ryan (1-1) got the win in relief, and Michael Tonkin (1-2) took the loss.

Astros 6, White Sox 5 – F/11 – Gattis homers in 11th, White hits 2 as Astros top White Sox
Evan Gattis celebrated his return to the majors with a two-run homer in the 11th inning that lifted the Houston Astros over the Chicago White Sox 6-5 on Tuesday night. Astros rookie Tyler White hit a pair of solo shots for his first multihomer game and capped a three-hit night with a double. Jason Castro and Jose Altuve each drove in a run for Houston. Gattis, who returned from Double-A Corpus Christi earlier in the day, lined an 0-2 pitch from reliever Matt Albers (1-3) into the left-field bullpen for his second homer this season. Pat Neshek (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning for the win. Tony Sipp allowed Adam Eaton’s RBI double in the 11th before earning his first save.

Brewers 4, Cubs 2 – Brewers’ Anderson loses no-hit bid, still beats Cubs 4-2
Chase Anderson took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and finished with 8 2/3 strong innings to lift the Milwaukee Brewers over the Chicago Cubs 4-2 on Tuesday night. The Cubs entered averaging 5.94 runs per game, but Anderson (2-5) stopped them almost cold to snap a personal five-game skid. Ben Zobrist ended Anderson’s no-hit bid with a double to the wall in center on the first pitch of the eighth. Anderson was perfect through 5 1/3 innings before walking Miguel Montero on a 3-2 pitch. Anderson regrouped by striking out Kyle Hendricks and Dexter Fowler. Jason Heyward and Kris Bryant spoiled Anderson’s shutout with solo homers in the ninth. Bryant drove Anderson’s final pitch to the seats in left. Cubs fans joined the hometown crowd with a standing ovation while Anderson walked off the field. Jeremy Jeffress got the final out for his 11th save.     Hendricks (2-3) allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings.

MLB – Detroit’s Ausmus suspended over ejection, tirade
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was suspended for last night’s game by MLB officials and also fined after his tirade and ejection from Monday night’s game against Minnesota. In a statement before last night’s contest, the commissioner’s office says Ausmus was disciplined for “excessive arguing.” At one point, his histrionics included taking off his sweatshirt and covering up home plate.

MLB – Cubs sign Joe Nathan, recovering from Tommy John surgery
The Cubs have signed a one-year contract for six-time All-Star reliever Joe Nathan. He last pitched on April 6, 2015, in his only appearance that season for the Detroit Tigers and is recovering from Tommy John surgery. Since he is still rehabbing from the surgery, the Cubs put Nathan on the DL.

Cavaliers 115, Raptors 84 – Cavs thump Raptors in game 1
The Cleveland Cavaliers remain unbeaten in the postseason after LeBron James hit his first nine shots and scored 24 points in three quarters of a 115-84 drubbing of Toronto in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. Kyrie Irving had a game-high 27 points for the Cavs, who shot 67 percent from the field in the first half and improved to 9-0 this postseason. NBA – 76ers win NBA draft lottery, Lakers stay at No. 2, keep pick
The order is set for the NBA draft — the Philadelphia 76ers have won the league’s draft lottery and will have the No. 1 pick in June. The Los Angeles Lakers finished second Tuesday night but also felt like winners, as they would have dealt their pick to Philadelphia had they fallen out of the top three. The Boston Celtics, with a pick dealt to them by the Brooklyn Nets, remained in the No. 3 slot. Nobody moved up in the lottery, which sets the top three picks. The remainder of the 14 teams are slotted in the inverse order of their won-loss record. Chicago will have the 14th pick and the Pistons will have the 18th pick.  The draft is June 23 in New York.

Martin Jones stopped 26 shots and the San Jose Sharks evened the NHL’s Western Conference finals at a game apiece by shutting out the Blues 4-0 in St. Louis. Tommy Wingels put the Sharks ahead 2:07 after the opening faceoff before Brent Burns provided the next two goals, both on power plays. Dainius Zubrus had an empty-net goal and an assist for the Sharks, who host Game 3 on Thursday.

NHL – Red Wings add Jeff Salajko as goalie coach
The Detroit Red Wings have hired goalie coach Jeff Salajko. The Red Wings made the move Tuesday, a week after adding assistant coach Doug Houda to Jeff Blashill’s staff. Salajko has been helping the Red Wings’ goalies in the American Hockey League with the Grand Rapids Griffins for two seasons. He previously was an assistant coach in the minors for the Columbus Blue Jackets and at Ohio State. Salajko had an eight-year career as a goalie in the minors. Detroit didn’t re-sign goalie coach Jim Bedard after he worked for the franchise for 18 seasons. Houda fills a void created when Tony Granato left the Red Wings to lead Wisconsin’s hockey program.

NCAA Basketball –  Ex-Michigan State star faces key hearing in June on sex case
Former Michigan State basketball player Mateen Cleaves is set for a hearing next month to determine whether he will stand trial on sexual assault charges. Cleaves was not on hand for a scheduled hearing yesterday in Flint, although his attorney says he was at the courthouse. Cleaves allegedly assaulted a woman at a motel last summer following a charity golf event.
