Mark Arcobello scored his second goal of the game in overtime, and Mike Smith made 33 saves to lead the Arizona Coyotes over the banged-up Detroit Red Wings 5-4 on Tuesday night. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Coyotes, who have the worst record in the Western Conference. The Red Wings have lost seven of 10 and are clinging to third place in the Atlantic Division, five points ahead of the surging Ottawa Senators. Luke Glendening, Justin Abdelkader, Jakub Kindl and Gustav Nyquist scored for the Red Wings. Jimmy Howard stopped 17 shots. Detroit controlled the majority of the game and finished with a 37-22 advantage in shots on goal. Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk sat out for the fourth straight game with a lower-body injury, and defenseman Niklas Kronwall was scratched due to a lower-body injury. NHL – Helm returns to Red Wings after girlfriend delivers child
Red Wings center Darren Helm had quite the story to tell when he returned to the team after the birth of his second child with his girlfriend. Helm was driving with his girlfriend, Devon, early Monday morning when the baby, Rylee-Klaire, was born in the couple’s car on the way to the hospital. Helm says it was “pretty intense” and he was “extremely proud” of Devon for how she handled the situation. Helm says Devon was able to deliver the baby on her own while he steered everyone to safety at the hospital. Rylee-Klaire, weighing in at six pounds, 10 ounces, arrived a week earlier than expected.

NBA – Donald Sterling’s wife, girlfriend to face off in court
The wife of former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling is going to court to seek $2.5 million in real estate and cars he gave a girlfriend. Shelly Sterling’s case against V. Stiviano is scheduled for trial Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The case comes nearly a year after Stiviano’s recording of Donald Sterling making racially insensitive remarks led the NBA to ban him for life. Shelly Sterling removed her husband from the trust that owned the team because of questions about his competence, and she sold the team for $2 billion. She sued Stiviano to reclaim what she said was community property given to the woman by her husband. Donald Sterling gave Stiviano a $1.8 million home and fancy cars that included a Ferrari and two Bentleys.

A’s 14, Cubs 2 – A’s down Cubs as RHP Edwin Jackson goes to wrong spring training park
The Oakland Athletics roughed up a late-arriving Edwin Jackson in a 14-2 win over Chicago yesterday. Cubs prospect Kris Bryant hit his ninth home run of the spring. Billy Butler and Stephen Vogt each hit two-run homers for Oakland.  Jackson was scratched from his start when he drove to the A’s old spring training home and then was stuck in traffic. He arrived in time to pitch second and allowed nine hits _ six for extra bases _ eight runs in 1 2-3 innings.

Rockies 7, White Sox 6 – Sloppy defense by Cabrera hurts White Sox in spring loss
White Sox left fielder Melky Cabrera committed two errors in Colorado’s six-run fifth inning as the Rockies went on to a 7-6 win yesterday. Jose Abreu connected for his first spring homer. Christian Bergmann finished the game with four scoreless innings for Colorado.

Yankees 9, Tigers 8 – Cabrera goes 1 for 3 in Tigers’ 9-8 loss to Yankees

NFL – Bears agree to 1-year deal with former 49ers DE McDonald
The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year contract with former San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald. Bringing in McDonald, who played under new Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in San Francisco, could be controversial for Chicago given his issues with the law. The 49ers cut McDonald in December after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her following a night of drinking in which she injured her head in a fall by his swimming pool. The team also announced Tuesday a one-year deal with defensive end Jarvis Jenkins, who spent the past four years with the Washington Redskins.

NFL – Owners still with plenty of work to do at meetings
NFL owners head into their final day of a busy set of meetings with plenty more work to do. After a flurry of votes and news, several more items on this week’s agenda remain. A change in overtime that would require both sides to have a possession even if the team receiving the kickoff scores a touchdown is on the table. So is moving the extra point kick back to the 15-yard line, and a scenario that gives teams that successfully convert a 2-point conversion the chance to immediately add another point from midfield with a “bonus field goal.” Indianapolis came up with the latter which, if approved, would make a nine-point deficit a one-possession game.  The Colts also have proposed allowing host teams to open a retractable roof at halftime, weather permitting, to enhance fan experience.

NFL – Vikings and Peterson may be parting company
Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings have reached a standstill in their relationship. Peterson’s agent, Ben Dogra, says that he believes a return to Minnesota this season is not in the “best interest” of the running back.  Peterson was suspended by the NFL and missed all of last season due to a child abuse case he was involved in. He has not yet been reinstated. Peterson has previously expressed uneasiness about continuing to play for the Vikings. General manager Rick Spielman has told Dogra the team doesn’t plan to release Peterson, who turned 30 on Saturday.

NFL – Manziel could return soon
Browns coach Mike Pettine expects quarterback Johnny Manziel to take part in the team’s practices next month after leaving rehab.  Pettine said the team has received “good” feedback about Manziel, who entered a treatment facility on Jan. 28 for an undisclosed problem.  Pettine does not know when Manziel will be discharged from rehab, but he expects the young QB to return to football immediately. The Browns will work out on April 20.

NCAA Basketball – Probation ordered in University of Toledo point-shaving case
Two former University of Toledo basketball players have been placed on probation for their role in shaving points for gamblers who bet on games a decade ago. Sammy Villegas and Anton Currie were sentenced Tuesday in Detroit federal court. They’re the first of seven former Rockets who will be sentenced this spring, including three ex-football players. Villegas and Currie received money from a Detroit-area gambler to manipulate the score of certain Toledo games, especially during the 2005-06 season. In court, Villegas apologized to the school. Currie says he accepts “full responsibility.”  Prosecutors didn’t object to probation, although Villegas had faced as much as 30 months in prison under sentencing guidelines. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn Helland says the point-shaving scandal was “corrosive” for Toledo.

NCAA Football – Kings, Williams not listed on Michigan State’s spring roster
Macgarrett Kings and Delton Williams are not on Michigan State’s football roster at the start of spring practice. Both players have been facing legal issues over the past month. Coach Mark Dantonio wouldn’t comment much on their status when he spoke Tuesday, the first day of spring practice for the Spartans. Dantonio says anyone not on the depth chart is “sort of in limbo” at the moment. Williams, a running back, was arraigned last week on a charge of brandishing a firearm in public. He was suspended from all team-related activities. Kings, a wide receiver, was arrested Feb. 28 on charges that included being drunk and disorderly and interfering with police.
