NHL – Blackhawks give 3-year contract extension to GM Stan Bowman
The Chicago Blackhawks have given a three-year contract extension to general manager Stan Bowman that runs through the 2020-21 season. Bowman is in his 15th season with the Blackhawks and his sixth as senior vice president and GM. The Blackhawks have won three Stanley Cup championships in the past six seasons and Bowman is the first GM to win three titles in the salary cap era. Bowman, who graduated from Notre Dame with degrees in finance and computer applications, is credited with building a core group of top players led by Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith and Marian Hossa and has re-signed Joel Quenneville, the second-winningest coach in NHL history, to two contract extensions.

NHL – Blues seek St. Louis arena upgrades after departure of Rams
The St. Louis Blues want two local governments to renovate their city-owned downtown arena as part of a project that will also upgrade the city’s convention center and former home of its recently departed NFL team. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues officials and the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission met with city and St. Louis County leaders last week to discuss a $100 million renovation of the 21-year-old Scottrade Center. The proposed project also calls for remodeling the America’s Center convention complex and the adjacent Edward Jones Dome, which was home to the St. Louis Rams before the NFL approved its move back to Los Angeles. Supporters want to package the three projects together to maximize potential public financing.

NBA – Bulls’ Noah expects to make full recovery from surgery
Joakim Noah says he expects to make a full recovery from shoulder surgery. Beyond that, the Bulls’ veteran center is not sure what the future holds. Noah attended practice Tuesday after returning to Chicago on Monday night ollowing surgery in New York last week to repair a dislocated left shoulder. He says doctors believe there is a “very good chance” he’ll make a full recovery. Whether he suits up again for the Bulls is another issue. He is in the final year of a five-year, $60 million contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent. Noah says he hopes he does return but is “not trying to focus on the future.”

NFL – NFL conducting comprehensive investigation of Manning
The NFL says it is conducting a comprehensive review of allegations that Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning had human growth hormone delivered to his house. There’s no timetable to complete the investigation, but it’s not expected before Denver plays Carolina in the Super Bowl on Feb. 7.  League spokesman Brian McCarthy says the inquiry, which began weeks ago, involves reviews of records, interviews and coordination with other agencies. Al Jazeera reported last month that an intern at an Indianapolis anti-aging clinic was secretly recorded suggesting that Manning’s wife received deliveries of HGH, which is banned by the league. Manning, then with the Colts, was rehabbing from shoulder surgeries. The intern, Charles Sly, has since recanted his story. Manning angrily denied using performance-enhancing substances and called the report “complete garbage.”
