Rockets 28, Chippewas 23 – Ely, Hunt help Toledo hold off Central Michigan 28-23
Phillip Ely threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns, Kareem Hunt ran for 118 yards and two scores, and Toledo beat Central Michigan 28-23 on Tuesday night for the Rockets’ sixth straight victory in the series. Toledo opened the game with a 12-play scoring drive, capped by Ely’s shovel pass to Michael Roberts for a 2-yard touchdown. Hunt’s 41-yard touchdown run up the middle made it 14-0. Early in the second quarter, Ely found Diontae Johnson down the sideline for a 36-yard TD. But Central Michigan scored the next 17 points and got to 28-23 with 3:26 left. Toledo’s Jameson Vest missed a 33-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining, but Cheatham Norrils sealed it two plays later with an interception. NCAA Football – Clemson, `Bama, Ohio State and Notre Dame top four
Notre Dame has moved into the top four in the second College Football Playoff selection committee rankings of the season. Clemson remained No. 1, with Alabama moving up two spots to No. 2, Ohio State staying at No. 3 and the Fighting Irish up a spot to No. 4. Notre Dame and Alabama each has one loss. Unbeaten Iowa was promoted four spots to No. 5, and Baylor is the highest-ranked Big 12 team at No. 6.  LSU, No. 2 last week, dropped to No. 9 after losing at Alabama.

NCAA Football – Notre Dame RB Prosise still questionable for Wake Forest
Coach Brian Kelly says running back C.J. Prosise has been cleared for physical activity after sustaining a concussion. He still needs to pass another test before a decision is made on whether he will play against Wake Forest on Saturday. Prosise was injured in a 42-30 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday when he landed hard on his left shoulder and his helmet hit the ground.

NCAA Football – OSU QB pleads guilty
Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has pleaded guilty to a count of driving while impaired. He was sentenced to a three-day alcohol education program and fined $400 in a Columbus, Ohio, court. The 20-year-old was cited for the misdemeanor at a Columbus police checkpoint Oct. 31. Coach Urban Meyer suspended Barrett for last Saturday’s game against Minnesota. On Monday Meyer said that Barrett is again considered the starter heading into this Saturday’s game at Illinois.

NHL – National Hockey League
Last Night
Detroit Red Wings 1, Washington Capitals 0

Red Wings 1, Capitals 0 – Athanasiou scores 1st goal, helps Red Wings top Capitals 1-0
Andreas Athanasiou scored 4:06 into the third period and Petr Mrazek had 38 saves, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a 1-0 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night. Athanasiou scored his first career goal in his second NHL game from an improbable angle. He shot from the goal line near the left corner, getting the puck between goaltender Braden Holtby and the left post.  Holtby had 26 saves for the Capitals and appeared to get away with scooping a puck out of the net with his glove in the first period. The play was reviewed, but the no-goal call on the ice was upheld. The Capitals started a power play with 5:08 left in the game, but couldn’t take advantage even with some Alex Ovechkin’s slap shots.

NBA – National Basketball Association

NFL – Luck out with lacerated kidney
Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck will miss two to six weeks with a lacerated kidney and partial tear of an abdominal muscle.  Coach Chuck Pagano (puh-GAH’-noh) says Luck was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win over Denver. The Colts don’t believe their quarterback will need surgery.  The timing couldn’t be worse for 4-5 Indianapolis, which was hoping to return form this week’s bye and build momentum with a favorable schedule.  Indianapolis will turn to 40-year old Matt Hasselbeck who is 2-0 as a Colts starter with wins over Houston and Jacksonville this season.

NFL – Bears’ Fabuluje suspended 4 games
Chicago Bears offensive tackle Tayo Fabuluje has been suspended four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. The punishment begins immediately. Fabuluje has appeared in four games. He will be eligible to return to the active roster next month.

MLB – White Sox hire Renteria as bench coach
The Chicago White Sox have hired former Cubs manager Rick Renteria as their bench coach. Renteria managed the young Cubs to 73 wins in 2014. The North Siders were planning to bring him back for a second season before Joe Maddon became available. The Cubs went on to win 97 games and reach the NL Championship Series with Maddon.

MLB – 3 Royals snag Gold Gloves
Catcher and World Series MVP Salvador Perez, first baseman Eric Hosmer and shortstop Alcides Escobar top the American League’s gold glove winners. Other AL Gold Glove winners are Houston pitcher Dallas Keuchel, Houston second baseman Jose Altuve, Baltimore third baseman Manny Macado, Detroit outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, who was traded in late July to the NL Mets, Tampa Bay outfielder Kevin Kiermaier and the L.A. Angels’ Kole Calhoun. Two members of the St. Louis Cardinals, catcher Yadier Molina and outfielder Jason Heyward, lead the NL all-defensive team. It’s Molina’s eighth Gold Glove. Other NL Gold Glovers are Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke, Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, Miami second baseman Dee Gordon, Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado, Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford, Pittsburgh outfielder Starling Marte and Arizona center fielder A.J. Pollock.

MLB – Manfred: Unlikely netting can be identical league wide
Ballparks differences make it impractical to have identical protective netting at all 30 big league venues, baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says. The commissioner’s office has been discussing the issue with teams following a series of injuries to fans from foul balls this year. Owners will discuss the matter when they meet in Dallas on Nov. 18-19. “If you go out and look at the ballparks, it becomes evident that a simple uniform, for example you’re going to net to the edge of the dugout, is not workable, given the variation in designs of the stadium,” Manfred said Tuesday at the general managers’ meetings.  “It’s going to have to be a little more complicated than that if, in fact, we move ahead.”
