Kole Calhoun hit a three-run homer to right in the fifth inning and Trout followed with a drive to left. Martin Maldonado homered in the seventh inning. It was the first set of back-to-back homers this season for Los Angeles. Trout became the first Angel to hit a home run in four consecutive days since Mark Trumbo in May 2012.

The Boston Celtics have advanced to the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals against Cleveland as Isaiah Thomas and Kelly Olynyk led them past the Washington Wizards, 115-105 in Game 7. Thomas got hot late in the second half and had 29 points and 12 assists. Olynyk added a career playoff-high 26 points and helped Boston’s bench outscore the Wizards’ reserves 48-5.

NBA – Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard ruled out for Game 2 vs Warriors
The Golden State Warriors won’t have to deal with Kawhi Leonard when they host Game 2 of the NBA’s Western Conference finals against San Antonio Tuesday night. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich says his top scorer won’t play after aggravating his sprained left ankle during the second half of Sunday’s 113-111 loss to the Warriors. Leonard left the game after he stepped on the foot of Warriors center Zaza Pachulia following a jumper.  The All-Star forward delivered 26 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes before the injury. Without him, Golden State soon went on an 18-0 run and won a game in which they trailed by 25. Leonard initially hurt the ankle during the conference semifinals against Houston.

NCAAFB – Super Bowl-style halftime coming to College Football Playoff
The College Football Playoff is bringing a Super Bowl-style halftime show to the national championship game without bumping the marching bands.  ESPN and the College Football Playoff say they will announce Tuesday that a musical guest will perform at halftime of this season’s title game in Atlanta on Jan. 8, 2018, and the performance will be aired on ESPN. The halftime concert will be held in Centennial Olympic Park, near the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. An artist has not yet been booked. For years the Super Bowl has featured marquee artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, U2 and Prince performing at halftime. The marching bands for each participating school will still perform in the stadium and that performance will be aired on an ESPN channel.

NCAA – Central Michigan hires Michael Alford as athletic director
Central Michigan has hired Michael Alford as its new athletic director. The school announced Monday that the senior associate athletic director for administration and development at Oklahoma is replacing Dave Heeke, who was hired as Arizona’s athletic director in April. The 47-year-old Alford will start his new job in July. He has worked at Oklahoma for four-plus years. Alford’s previous stops include working as the Dallas Cowboys’ senior director for corporate partnerships and Alabama’s general manager of Crimson Tide Sports Marketing. He also worked at ESPN, USC and for the Cincinnati Bengals and the University of Cincinnati.

NFL – Chiefs top pick robbed at gunpoint
Texas authorities say Kansas City Chiefs rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes escaped injury after being robbed last weekend. The Smith County Sheriff’s Office says the former Texas Tech standout and three other victims were stepping from a vehicle on a driveway outside Tyler on Friday night when a suspect approached and gestured he had a handgun in his waistband. Investigators say the man took property from the victims and sped away, but deputies later arrested two suspects and recovered items taken during the holdup.

NFL – Carroll says Seahawks considering Kaepernick as backup
Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Monday that the team is considering Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III as possible backup options to starting quarterback Russell Wilson.  In an interview with KIRO-AM, Carroll was asked specifically about the pair of veteran quarterbacks who would seem to fit the style Seattle desires in Wilson’s backup.  “We’re looking at everybody. We really are,” Carroll said. “We’ve been tracking everything that is going on and we’ve got cap and roster issues and stuff like that that we’re trying to make sure we manage properly but quite frankly, yes, we’re looking at all those guys.” Trevone Boykin served as Wilson’s backup last season but has run into off-field issues during the offseason. Carroll often praised Kaepernick when he was with San Francisco.

NFL – Colts sign 4th draft pick, waive 2nd-year offensive lineman
The Indianapolis Colts have signed fourth-round draft pick Zach Banner and waived second-year center Austin Blythe. While terms of Banner’s deal were not immediately available, rookies typically sign for three years. The 6-foot-9, 360-pound tackle was Southern California’s 2015 offensive lineman of the year and was chosen No. 137 overall.

NASCAR adds fourth stage to Coca-Cola 600
NASCAR is adding a fourth stage to the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Memorial Day weekend. The series says the stages in the 400-lap race will be uniformly set at 100 laps apiece. Races this year have had three stages under a format change announced in January.

Golf – Rory McIlroy says tests show no new injury to his back
Rory McIlroy says tests indicate no new injury to his back, only what he described as a “low-grade response” to his rib injury in January. McIlroy had an MRI upon returning to Northern Ireland because of mild pain he felt during The Players Championship. He said in a statement Monday that he is entered in the BMW PGA Championship next week at Wentworth and will decide early next week if he can play. The four-time major champion had a hairline rib fracture in January and missed seven weeks.  McIlroy played four times in six weeks through the Masters before taking a three-week break to get married. He says he might have aggravated the injury by practicing three days in a row to get ready for The Players.
