Twins 4, Tigers 2 – Twins overtake Tigers 4-2 behind strong start from Berrios
Logan Morrison forced in the go-ahead run with a four-pitch walk in the eighth inning after striking out in his first three at-bats, propelling the Minnesota Twins to a 4-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday night. Jose Berrios (5-4) struck out nine, giving up just three hits and two walks over eight innings. Fernando Rodney closed for his 10th save in 13 tries. Rodney, whose first eight seasons of his major league career were with the Tigers, has converted eight straight saves in 10 consecutive scoreless innings. Nicholas Castellanos gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with a home run to straightaway center field in the first inning and a two-out RBI single in the third, both hits on first pitches. Berrios retired 15 straight batters after that to sail past the seven-inning mark he’s reached in half of his 10 starts.  The more relevant reunion was the return of Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire to Minnesota, where he managed the Twins for 13 seasons. This was the first game between the division rivals since Gardenhire was hired by Detroit

Orioles 3, White Sox 2 – Machado hits 15th homer as Orioles edge White Sox 3-2
Manny Machado, Adam Jones and Mark Trumbo homered, helping Andrew Cashner and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Monday night. Machado hit a line drive to left in the fourth inning for his 15th homer, moving into a tie for the major league lead with Boston’s Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez. Trumbo connected in the fifth against Hector Santiago, and Jones went deep in the sixth after leaving Sunday’s 5-0 loss to the Red Sox due to an illness. Cashner (2-5) got his first win since April 5, helped by some terrific relief work by Mychal Givens. Cashner pitched five-plus innings and was charged with two runs and eight hits. Jose Abreu, Matt Davidson and Leury Garcia had two hits apiece for Chicago (13-31), which had won three of four.

NBA – 2018 NBA Playoffs – Conference Finals – (Best of 7)
Last Night
Cleveland Cavaliers 111, Boston Celtics 102                               Series tied 2-2

Cavaliers 111, Celtics 102 – LeBron scores 44 as Cavs even series with Celtics
LeBron James scored 44 points, surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar atop a postseason list and helped the Cleveland Cavaliers even the Eastern Conference finals at 2-2 on Monday night with a 111-102 victory over the Boston Celtics, who are looking forward to getting home. Pushed by a raucous crowd that wasn’t so confident a few days ago, the Cavs held off Boston’s comeback in the fourth quarter and squared a series that is now a best-of-three. Cleveland is trying to become the 20th team, out of 300, to overcome a 2-0 deficit and James, who has already orchestrated two such rallies, is a step closer to a third. But to do it again the Cavs will have to win in Boston, where the Celtics are 9-0 this postseason.

Last Night
Houston Rockets at Golden State Warriors, 9:00 p.m.                GSW leads 2-1

NBA – Iguodala doubtful for Game 4
Golden State Warriors forward Andre Iguodala is listed as doubtful for Game 4 of the Western Conference finals Tuesday against Houston because of a sore left knee. Golden State is 14-4 in postseason games started by Iguodala since 2015. Also Monday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said the team plans to speak to the league regarding Draymond Green’s double-technical with Trevor Ariza issued midway through the fourth quarter when Ariza shoved Green as they traded words.

NHL – 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs – Conference Finals – (Best of 7)
Last Night
Washington Capitals 3, Tampa Bay Lightning 0                             Series tied 3-3

Capitals 3, Lightning 0 – Capitals rough up Lightning to force Game 7 in East final
T.J. Oshie and Devante Smith-Pelly scored, Braden Holtby stopped all 24 shots he faced and the Washington Capitals beat up the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-0 Monday night to even the Eastern Conference final and force a deciding Game 7. Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson and Brooks Orpik led the charge, throwing their bodies around all night in Game 6. Tampa Bay got 31 saves from goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy in another impressive showing but had no answer for Washington’s hit-everything-that-moves approach facing elimination at home. Game 7 is Wednesday night at Tampa Bay. The winner faces the Vegas Golden Knights, who are in the Stanley Cup Final in their first season.

NHL – Lamoriello coming to the Island
Lou Lamoriello is about to join the New York Islanders’ front office. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to The Associated Press that the Hall of Fame executive has been hired by the Isles, although it’s not clear whether Lamoriello’s title will be director of hockey operations, general manager or a hybrid. However, it’s expected that he’ll be in charge. It was also uncertain how his hiring would affect current president and general manager Garth Snow, who has four years left on his contract but has led the team to just four playoff appearances in 12 years at the helm.

NFL – NFL: Patricia’s past not subject to personal conduct policy
The NFL says sexual assault allegations against Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia from 1996 are not subject to its personal conduct policy. The league says Monday it has completed its review of the team’s interviewing process. Patricia has said he was falsely accused of allegations that resurfaced earlier this month in a Detroit News report . The accuser did not testify and the case was dismissed.  The Lions have said a pre-employment background check did not reveal the incident and they are standing by Patricia. The NFL says the Lions were appropriate and thorough during the interview process. It says Patricia did not mislead anyone with the Lions and adds he was under no league or other requirement to raise the issue.

NFL – Goodell details NFL’s stance on sports gambling
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says Congress should enact uniform standards for any states that plan to legislate sports betting. Goodell reiterated the NFL’s stance that legalized sports gambling in the United States should be governed by federal law rather than state law. The Supreme Court ruled last week to strike down a 1992 law that barred most state-authorized sports gambling. Goodell also is seeking consumer protections as well as fan access to official and reliable league data.

Swimming – Olympian sues USA Swimming
Olympian Ariana Kukors Smith has sued USA Swimming, alleging it knew her former coach sexually abused her as a minor but failed to protect her and covered it up.  Kukors Smith alleges Sean Hutchison groomed her for sexual abuse when she was 13, started touching and kissing her when she was 16, and engaged in sexual activity with her when she was 17.  Hutchison began coaching her at a swim club near Seattle and previously denied the allegations when Kukors Smith posted an emotional essay on line earlier this year.

USOC – USOC hires former FBI exec
The U.S. Olympic Committee has hired an FBI executive as its senior director of athlete safety, in charge of strengthening sex-abuse policies that are being rewritten in the wake of cases involving Olympic athletes. Wendy Guthrie comes to the USOC after spending the past six years as senior executive of human resources at the FBI. Before that, she held high-ranking jobs at the Northwest and West Coast Conferences in college sports.   The USOC has commissioned an independent investigation into its handling of abuse allegations, with results expected this summer.

Tennis – French Open – Serena Williams won’t be seeded in Paris
French Open organizers will not give Serena Williams a seeding. The French Tennis Federation said in a statement to The Associated Press that tour officials will establish the list and ranking of the women’s seeds based on the WTA ranking. That leaves Williams out of the seedings, since she is currently ranked No. 453 due to her lengthy maternity leave. The three-time French Open champion hasn’t played a Grand Slam event since last year’s Australian Open.
