Angels 7, White Sox 0 – Hector Santiago pitches Angels to 7-0 win over White Sox
Hector Santiago matched a career high with 10 strikeouts over seven crisp innings, and the Los Angeles Angels roughed up Carlos Rodon on their way to a 7-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night. Kole Calhoun, Andrelton Simmons and Geovany Soto hit consecutive RBI singles during a five-run first, matching the Angels’ season high for runs in an entire game. Mike Trout scored on a throwing error by first baseman Jose Abreu, and Johnny Giavotella capped the opening outburst with another RBI single. Rodon (1-2) got only one out before he was replaced by Jake Petricka. The No. 3 pick in the 2014 amateur draft allowed six hits and walked two in the shortest
of his 29 major league appearances.

Cubs 5, Cardinals 0 – Lackey strikes out 11 against old team as Cubs top Cards 5-0
John Lackey struck out 11 in seven innings of four-hit ball against his former team and had an RBI single, leading the Chicago Cubs over the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0 Monday night. Jayson Heyward, playing at Busch Stadium for the first time since leaving to sign with Chicago, was 0 for 4 at the plate, made two nice catches in right field and was booed throughout. Dexter Fowler homered for the second time in three days for the Cubs, a major league-best 10-3 and off to their best start since 1970. Chicago has won 15 of its last 16 regular-season road games, going 6-1 this year.

MLB – Tigers minor league pitcher given drug suspensions
Detroit pitcher Spenser Watkins have been suspended for 50 games each under baseball’s minor league drug program following second positive tests for drugs of abuse.  Watkins, a 23-year-old right-hander, was a 30th-round draft pick by the Tigers in 2014. He was 5-4 with a 2.48 ERA in 15 starts and one relief appearance last year for Connecticut of the Class-A New York-Penn League and West Michigan of the Class-A Midwest League. He is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA for West Michigan this year.

The Indiana Pacers dropped Game 2 of their playoff series against the Toronto Raptors last night, 98-87. Paul George scored 28 points for the Pacers while Monta Ellis had 15. The series is now even at a game apiece, with Game 3 in Indianapolis on Thursday night.

NBA – Pistons coach Van Gundy fined for comments
Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of officiating, it was announced Monday by NBA executive vice president Kiki VanDeWeghe. Van Gundy made his comments in a live television interview during the Pistons’ 106-101 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

NFL – Bears’ Josh Bellamy signs rights tender
Chicago Bears wide receiver and special teams standout Josh Bellamy has signed his exclusive rights tender. Last season, Bellamy was second on the team with 10 special teams tackles along with a fumble recovery on a muffed punt. He also had 19 receptions for 224 yards and two touchdowns.  Bellamy has started three times in 28 appearances with Kansas City, Washington and Chicago since 2012.

NFL – Luck returns to Colts’ complex feeling healthy, ready to go
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck says he has recovered from a kidney injury that forced him to miss the last seven games in 2015. Luck also missed two games last season with a right shoulder injury. On Monday, in his first substantial comments since early January, Luck said the shoulder feels good but that there’s still some offseason work to do before he’s 100 percent. For the first time in his career, Luck will be working with a new quarterbacks coach. And new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who took over in November, is installing new schemes that Luck must master before the Sept. 11 season opener against Detroit.

Ethiopian’s sweep Boston Marathon
Lemi Berhanu Hayle won the 120th edition of the Boston Marathon, and Atsede Baysa overcame a 37-second deficit on the women’s side for Ethiopia’s first-ever sweep of the race. Hayle finished in 2 hours, 12 minutes, 45 seconds to finish 47 seconds ahead of defending champion Lelisa Desisa.
