MLB – Cubs, rooftop owners in court over Wrigley renovation
A lawyer for rooftop clubs around Wrigley Field says the Chicago Cubs are illegally trying to drive his clients out of business by constructing a large video board at the stadium. The claim came Monday in Chicago as U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall heard arguments on whether she should order a halt to construction of the right-field sign that would block several rooftop views. Lawyer Thomas Lombardo says the Cubs have tried to “bully” his clients into raising ticket prices or selling their clubs. The Cubs currently have a revenue-sharing agreement with the rooftop owners. Cubs attorney Daniel Laytin says team owners are merely exercising a fundamental right to build on property they own. Kendall rejected the rooftops clubs’ emergency request earlier this year to halt installation.

NFL – Owners consider rule ordering unstable players off field
NFL owners are considering a proposal to stop games when a medical adviser sees a player displaying obvious signs of disorientation. The proposal was a late addition by the competition committee at the owners’ meetings that began on Monday. It would allow a medical spotter upstairs to communicate with the officiating crew when a player appears unstable. The game would be halted to remove the player, who would then undergo sideline examination at the very least.

NFL – NFL suspending TV blackouts for 2015 season
The NFL will not block any games from local television during the 2015 season. The league said Monday that team owners voted for a one-year suspension of the long-standing blackout policy for the preseason and regular season. There were no blackouts last season, because the minimum number of tickets were sold for every game, and only two blackouts in 2013. Still, the experiment is a huge step for the NFL, whose blackout policy dates back decades. With low ticket sales in cities such as Jacksonville, Oakland and San Diego, the league is taking a bit of a gamble for 2015.

NFL – NFL considers foreign sites for Pro Bowl
The NFL is considering foreign sites for the Pro Bowl. Next year’s game will be played in Honolulu, the frequent site for the all-star matchup, and will be held Jan. 31, the Sunday before the Super Bowl. Beyond that, just about anywhere seems to be in play. “The 2016 Pro Bowl will be played in Hawaii … and we are very excited about that,” NFL spokesman Michael Signora said Monday. “For 2017 and beyond, we are studying the future of the Pro Bowl. “Brazil, an area with a growing number of NFL fans, as a possible host is one of the ideas that seems to hold a lot of appeal for additional analysis.” Brazilian interest in the sport has ramped up in recent years, particularly in television viewership. The story was initially reported by Fox Sports.com.

MHSAA – Muskegon’s Deyonta Davis named Michigan’s Mr. Basketball
Michigan State-bound Deyonta Davis is Michigan’s Mr. Basketball, the second straight year a Muskegon High School player has won the award. Davis received the award Monday. It’s given to the state’s top senior by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, in conjunction with the Detroit Free Press. The 6-foot-10 Davis got 5,223 points in the balloting, ahead of Saginaw Arthur Hill’s Eric Davis with 3,757 points and Lansing Everett’s Trevor Manuel with 2,837 points. Muskegon’s Deshaun Thrower was named Mr. Basketball a year ago. Heading into tonight’s quarterfinal playoff game against Lansing Everett, Davis is averaging 19 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks per game and shooting 67 percent from the field.
