Carolina Panthers 29, Indianapolis Colts 26 – OT

Panthers 29, Colts 26 – OT – Gano’s 52-yard FG lifts Panthers over Colts in OT, 29-26
Graham Gano kicked a 52-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Carolina Panthers to a 29-26 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night to remain the NFC’s only unbeaten team. After Andrew Luck rallied the Colts from 17 points down in the final 7 ½ minutes of regulation, both teams exchanged field goals in overtime. Roman Harper then deflected Luck’s pass over the middle to Coby Fleener and Luke Kuechly, who had dropped an earlier interception that would have sealed the game at the end of regulation, came up with the pick at the Colts 39. Four plays later Gano hit the winner to extend the Panthers regular season winning streak to 11 games. Cam Newton was 16 of 35 for 248 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for 41 yards.

NFL – 2 protesters rappel from balcony at Colts-Panthers game

Panthers spokesman Steven Drummond says authorities arrested four people in the incident. The protesters dangled by ropes well into the fourth quarter.

NFL – Fox: Knee injuries to Forte, Royal likely not season-ending
Chicago Bears coach John Fox says he does not think the knee injuries running back Matt Forte and veteran Eddie Royal suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings are season-ending. He does not anticipate them needing surgery, either. A day after Forte injured his right knee and Royal hurt his left one, Fox said they were “still in evaluation” and did not have an exact diagnosis.”  Losing either player, particularly Forte, for an extended time would be a big blow for the rebuilding team. The Bears are 2-5 after losing on a last-second field goal by Blair Walsh, with a Monday night game at San Diego up next.

Kane scored to tie it at 2, then set up Teuvo Teravainen’s tiebreaking goal in the third as Chicago scored three goals in the final period. After taking Toews’ pass, Artem Anisimov added a short-handed breakaway goal with 1:33 left to complete the scoring, and the Blackhawks ended a two-game slide. Toews got his fifth goal in five games after not scoring in the opening seven contests to help Chicago win its sixth straight at home. Alec Martinez scored his first goal of the season and Anze Kopitar got his fourth late in the first period to give the Kings a 2-1 lead. Chicago’s Corey Crawford made 33 saves and Los Angeles’ Jonathan Quick stopped 22 shots.

NHL – Senators’ Stone suspended 2 games by NHL

Stone, who leads the Senators with 13 points, was assessed a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head during Saturday’s game. Ferraro initially left the game, but did return. The league called the hit a “reckless shoulder to the head.” Stone, who is not a repeat offender, loses $37,634.40 in salary and will miss Ottawa’s games against Montreal on Tuesday and Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets.

NCAA Football – Nebraska AD tells fans `future is bright’ under Mike Riley
Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst has released a letter to Cornhuskers football fans thanking them for their support and expressing confidence “the future is bright” under first-year coach Mike Riley. Eichorst says that while the team’s 3-6 record is disappointing, he’s impressed by what he sees behind the scenes. Eichorst said “though the consistent victories are not there yet, I am confident they will come. I have witnessed how our young men battle every day in practice and fight to the finish on game days in the face of great adversity.” Nebraska lost 55-45 at Purdue on Saturday and plays No. 6 Michigan State this week. Riley replaced Bo Pelini, who won at least nine games each of his seven years at Nebraska.

Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett is due in court later this week following his weekend citation with a misdemeanor offense of operating a vehicle under the influence. The 20-year-old Barrett took over as the full-time starter for the top-ranked Buckeyes on Oct. 24, throwing for 223 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-7 win over Rutgers.
