Seahawks 13, Lions 10 – Chancellor’s big play allows Seattle to beat Detroit 13-10
Kam Chancellor punched the ball free from Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson at the 1-yard line when it appeared the Lions were going to take the lead, and the Seattle Seahawks held on for a 13-10 win on Monday night. With Detroit on the verge of capping a 91-yard drive with the go-ahead touchdown with less than 2 minutes remaining, Chancellor came from the side and punched the ball from Johnson’s arm as he was being tackled by Earl Thomas. The ball bounded into the end zone and was battled over the back line for a touchback and Seattle’s ball at the 20, even though it should have been a penalty on the Seahawks Russell Wilson was sacked six times and pulled numerous escape acts, but threw a TD pass to Doug Baldwin in the first half and Steven Hauschka hit a pair of field goals from 50-plus yards as Seattle evened its record at 2-2.

NFL – Luck limited at practice, uncertain for game at Houston
Andrew Luck did some light work during the media portion of Monday’s practice. He tossed a few very short screen passes and handed off a few times. Whether he’ll do much more, or any more, Thursday night at Houston is still unclear. Luck did not speak with reporters after Sunday’s 16-13 overtime victory, which he sat out because of an injured right shoulder, or before practice Monday. He is expected to take questions Tuesday. Matt Hasselbeck replaced Luck on Sunday, was 30 of 47 with 282 yards and one touchdown, and would likely start again Thursday if Luck can’t play. Indy (2-2) also released third-string quarterback Josh Johnson on Monday and re-signed cornerback Shaun Prater to the active roster.

NFL – Stadium officials act to correct locker room issue in Indy
Lucas Oil Stadium officials say they have made sure a locker room access mistake following Sunday’s game in Indianapolis won’t be repeated. A male usher stopped three female journalists from entering the Jacksonville Jaguars locker room before asking other men if it was OK to allow them inside. Public relations staffs from both teams apologized to the women following the Colts’ 16-13 overtime victory. Stadium director Michael Fox also apologized Monday. Fox issued a statement that said a security guard acted “on his own accord” and not at the direction of his superiors, and that stadium officials had already taken steps to assure “such a misunderstanding will not happen again.” He did not provide details about what measures were taken.

MLB – Cubs take aim at postseason after making big leap
No matter how the playoffs turn out for the Chicago Cubs, manager Joe Maddon wanted to know one thing. He asked how anyone could be “disappointed with anything our players have done.” The Cubs visit Pittsburgh on Wednesday night for the NL wild-card game. It’s the first playoff appearance for the franchise in seven years. The emergence of several young players helped turn the Cubs into one of the best teams in baseball even though they finished third in their division. They will send Jake Arrieta to the mound against Gerrit Cole and the Pirates, hoping his dominant run continues into the postseason. If they win, the Cubs meet St. Louis in the division series. Otherwise, it’s on to next year.

MLB – Sabathia will miss Yankees postseason to enter rehab
New York Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia will miss the postseason after checking into an alcohol rehab center. The 2007 AL Cy Young Award winner said he took the step to receive the care he needs and become a better person. Sabathia was 6-10 with a 4.73 ERA this year after posting a 5.28 earned run average in just eight starts for the 2014 Yanks.

NCAA Football – Michigan loses DE Ojemudia for year with Achilles injury
No. 18 Michigan says the college career of defensive end Mario Ojemudia is over because of an Achilles tendon injury. Ojemudia, a senior, was hurt during Saturday’s win at Maryland. Michigan plans to put senior Royce Jenkins-Stone in Ojemudia’s spot on Saturday at home against No. 13 Northwestern. The Wolverines won 28-0 against the Terrapins without banged-up running back De’Veon Smith and cornerback Channing Stribling. Smith was hurt in the previous win over then-No. 22 BYU, appearing to injure his right ankle. Stribling’s ailment has not been disclosed. Harbaugh expects both Smith and Stribling to practice Monday, and hopes they needed to miss only one game to get healthy enough to play.

NHL – Sharks forward hit with half-season suspension
San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres will miss half the upcoming NHL season and lose more than $440,000 in salary after being suspended by the league for a hit on Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg.  The league said the 41-game suspension without pay was for interference and an illegal check to the head against Silfverberg during the first period of a preseason game in Anaheim on Saturday.

NHL – Ex-Canadiens defenseman Mike Weaver retires at 37
Defenseman Mike Weaver has retired at 37 after an 11-year career in the NHL in which he played the last two seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. Weaver announced his retirement Monday in a statement by the NHL Players’ Association, saying he “never could have imagined” such a career.  Weaver also played for the Atlanta Thrashers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Florida Panthers.
