Nolan Carroll returned one of Eli Manning’s two interceptions for a 12-yard TD early in the second quarter, putting the Eagles ahead to stay. NFL – Detroit’s Zenner out with cracked ribs, collapsed lung
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner is going on injured reserve with cracked ribs and a partially collapsed lung. Coach Jim Caldwell said Monday that Zenner was in the hospital after being injured in Sunday’s overtime win over Chicago. Caldwell said Zenner would go on IR “at some point in time” but that his condition was improving. Zenner has 60 yards on 17 carries this season. He impressed during preseason and has received some playing time in a backfield that’s been hurt by Joique Bell’s injury problems and Ameer Abdullah’s fumbling.  Theo Riddick made the most of his opportunities Sunday, running for 28 yards on 7 carries and catching 3 passes for 50 yards.

NFL – Bears elevate CB from practice squad
The Chicago Bears have elevated cornerback Bryce Callahan from the practice squad to the active roster and waived safety Demontre Hurst. Callahan played in the first two games this season for the Bears after entering the league with them as an undrafted rookie out of Rice. Hurst appeared in 18 games the past two years with Chicago.

MLB – Tigers’ Norris says he kept pitching with cancerous growth
Tigers left-hander Daniel Norris says he kept pitching last season after finding out he had a cancerous growth on his thyroid. In a message on Twitter and Instagram on Monday, the 22-year-old Norris said he found out the growth was malignant but was told by a doctor that he could wait until the end of the season to have it removed. Norris says now: “It’s time to get this thing out.” Norris was traded from Toronto to Detroit in late July in the deal that sent David Price to the Blue Jays. Al Avila, who was promoted to replace Dave Dombrowski as Detroit’s general manager shortly after the trade deadline, says the Tigers knew about Norris’ condition when they acquired him and expect him to recover in full.

MLB – Detroit Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones is retiring
Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones is retiring after a 38-year career in professional baseball. Jones became the team’s pitching coach in July of 2011 when Detroit fired predecessor Rick Knapp in the middle of the season. Justin Verlander went on to win the Cy Young Award that year. Max Scherzer followed suit in 2013.

NCAA Football – Michigan State’s Watts-Jackson released from hospital
Michigan State defensive back Jalen Watts-Jackson was released from the hospital Monday, a day after he had surgery on a hip he injured while scoring the winning touchdown against Michigan.  A Michigan State spokesman said Watts-Jackson returned to the school’s campus Monday. Watts-Jackson came up with a Michigan fumble on the final play of the game and returned it 38 yards to give the seventh-ranked Spartans an incredible 27-23 victory Saturday. The redshirt freshman appeared to land hard on his left hip while being tackled into the end zone by Michigan tight end Jake Butt. His surgery Sunday at the University of Michigan hospital lasted more than three hours.

NCAA Football – Obama offers condolences to Harbaugh after Wolverine loss
President Barack Obama has given his condolences to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh following the Wolverines’ stunning loss to Michigan State. Harbaugh tells The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press that he and his wife, Sara, met with the president Monday at the White House following an appearance with first lady Michelle Obama at a higher education awareness event. He says Barack Obama watched Saturday’s 27-23 loss to the Spartans and told the coach it “was a tough way to lose a football game.” Leading 23-21, the Wolverines lined up to punt with 10 seconds left, but punter Blake O’Neill fumbled the snap. Michigan State’s Jalen Watts-Jackson ended up with the ball and went 38 yards for a touchdown with no time left on the clock.
