Red Sox 4, Dodgers 2 – Price pitches Red Sox past Dodgers 4-2 for 2-0 Series lead
David Price pitched six innings of three-hit ball, and major league RBI leader J.D. Martinez broke a fifth-inning tie during another two-out rally Wednesday night that led the Boston Red Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers for a 2-0 lead in the World Series. Craig Kimbrel closed out the win at noisy Fenway Park, putting the Red Sox halfway to their fourth championship in 15 seasons. Game 3 is Friday in Los Angeles. The Dodgers would need a win to avoid an 0-3 deficit that no World Series team has ever recovered from. The Red Sox have won 14 of their last 16 World Series games, dating to a four-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004.

NFL – Giants trade Harrison to Lions for 5th-round pick
The New York Giants have traded star defensive tackle Damon "Snacks" Harrison to the Detroit Lions for a draft pick.  Giants coach Pat Shurmur confirmed the deal Wednesday after practice without revealing details. The teams are expected to confirm it Thursday after Harrison passes a physical.  A person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press that Giants will receive a fifth-round draft pick for the soon-to-be 30-year-old Harrison, who was a 2016 All-Pro selection.  The trade is the second for the Giants (1-6) in less than 24 hours and indicates the organization is cleaning house after four wins in the past 23 regular-season games.  The Lions (3-3) have one of the NFL’s worst run defenses. The line has been without end Ziggy Ansah most of the season. Former Giant Romeo Okwara has been in the rotation at end for Detroit. Detroit hosts Seattle (3-3) on Sunday and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Harrison is a great addition for the Lions. "Tell him to take his time getting there," Carroll said.

The Big Ten has fined Michigan State $10,000 and reprimanded the Spartans football team, coach Mark Dantonio, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and Wolverines linebacker Devin Bush for their actions and comments regarding a confrontation before last week’s game.  The Big Ten said Wednesday in a statement Michigan State violated the conference’s sportsmanship policy when its team walked across the field with linked arms and initiated contact with Michigan players, who were on the field during pregame warmups.  Dantonio, who was walking behind the team during its pregame ritual, was reprimanded for “failing to take action to mitigate a foreseeable conflict from occurring.”  Harbaugh was reprimanded for postgame comments about the incident and Dantonio. Bush was reprimanded for tearing up Michigan State’s midfield logo with his cleats before the game.

NCAAFB – Fired Ohio St assistant Smith pleads guilty to lesser charge
Fired Ohio State assistant football coach Zach Smith has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct and an Ohio court issued a three-year protective order that keeps him away from his ex-wife. Smith had been facing a criminal trespass charge stemming from a May dispute. According to Delaware Municipal Court documents, he pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor disorderly conduct and was fined $150. Smith said in a Twitter post he agreed to plead guilty to avoid the cost of a trial and end the situation. Courtney Smith’s agreed to the deal because “a public trial would have had a negative impact on the children, and their safety and well-being has always been her priority,” according to a statement from her attorney. Zach Smith was fired in July by coach Urban Meyer after domestic violence allegations surfaced. Meyer later was suspended for three games for his handling of it. Smith was not criminally charged with domestic violence.
