Seahawks 28, Lions 14 – Wilson throws 3 TDs in 2nd , Seahawks top Lions 28-14
Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to put the Seattle Seahawks ahead and they went on to beat the Detroit Lions 28-14 Sunday.  The Seahawks (4-3) looked sharp on both sides of the ball coming off their bye and won for the fourth time in five games after opening the season with two losses. Wilson completed 10 passes, two for scores, before having an incompletion late in the second quarter. He finished 14 of 17 for 248 yards, leading to a perfect quarterback rating. Wilson’s 24-yard pass to Tyler Lockett , 15-yard throw to David Moore and 12-yard pass to Ed Dickson for touchdowns gave Seattle a 21-7 lead at halftime.  The Lions (3-4) had won three of four and got off to a good start against Seattle, breaking a scoreless tie late in the first quarter on Matthew Stafford’s 39-yard pass to Marvin Jones. Stafford threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jones early in the fourth to cut the deficit to 14.

Bears 24, Jets 10 – Trubisky throws 2 TDs as Bears beat Jets 24-10
Mitchell Trubisky threw for two touchdowns, and the short-handed Chicago Bears beat the New York Jets 24-10 on Sunday. The Bears (4-3) got the win they needed after dropping two in a row to fall out of the NFC North lead, even though star pass rusher Khalil Mack (right ankle) and No. 1 receiver Allen Robinson (groin) missed the game. With Sam Darnold struggling against Chicago’s defense, the Jets (3-5) managed just 207 yards and lost their second straight game. Trubisky was shaky but did enough to help the Bears come out on top. He connected with Tarik Cohen for a 70-yard touchdown on a screen in the first quarter and threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Anthony Miller in the third, making it 14-3. But the second-year pro was wild again after struggling with his control against New England the previous week. Trubisky was 16 of 29 for 220 yards. He also ran for 51 on six attempts.

Colts 42, Raiders 28 – Luck’s 3 TD passes lead Colts past Raiders 42-28
Andrew Luck’s third touchdown pass of the afternoon broke a tie with 5:28 to go in the Colts’ 42-28 win at Oakland. Marlon Mack ran for a career-high 132 yards and two touchdowns, breaking the personal mark he set last week against Buffalo with 126 yards. Derek Carr threw three TD passes and ran for a fourth just days after Oakland traded his top receiver Amari Cooper to Dallas.

Red Sox 5, Dodgers 1 – Red Sox capture World Series crown
The Boston Red Sox won their fourth World Series championship in 15 years, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in Game 5 Sunday night behind David Price’s pitching and Steve Pearce’s power. Alex Cora became the first manager from Puerto Rico to guide a team to the title. He’s just the fifth rookie skipper to do it overall. After posting a team-record 108 wins during the regular season and romping through the AL playoffs, the Red Sox finished off a one-sided Series.  Price threw three-hit ball into the eighth inning. Pearce hit two home runs, a night after his homer and three-run double spurred a late rally. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez also connected as the Red Sox hit three homers off Clayton Kershaw. Los Angeles lost Game 7 of the World Series last year to Houston, also at Dodger Stadium by the same 5-1 score.   Pearce was named MVP of the series.

Red Wings 4, Stars 2 – Red Wings get first home win, 4-2 over Stars
Anthony Mantha helped the Detroit Red Wings win at home for the first time this season with a 4-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Sunday. Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi , defenseman Jonathan Ericsson and Justin Abdelkader scored  for Detroit (2-7-2), which had been 0-3-1 at Little Caesars Arena.  Dylan Larkin had two assists and Jonathan Bernier stopped 28 shots for his first win as a Red Wing, after signing as a free agent in July. Gemel Smith and defensemen John Klingberg scored for Dallas (5-5-0).  Ben Bishop made 19 saves. Klingberg made it 3-2, with 36.3 seconds left with Bishop pulled for the extra attacker. It was Klingberg’s team-leading sixth goal. But Abdelkader’s empty-net goal clinched it with 23 seconds remaining. It was Abdelkader’s first goal.

Oilers 2, Blackhawks 1 – OT – McDavid’s OT goal gives Oilers 2-1 win over Blackhawks
Connor McDavid scored 53 seconds into overtime to lift the Edmonton Oilers to their third straight win, 2-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. After two Blackhawks skaters got caught deep in their zone, McDavid finished a 2-on-1 break, taking a cross-ice feed from Leon Draisaitl and beating Cam Ward from the left circle for his eighth goal. Chicago’s Brent Seabrook and Edmonton’s Zack Kassian scored in the first period. Chicago’s leading scorer, Patrick Kane, assisted on Seabrook’s goal to extend his point streak to six games. Kane, who entered with an NHL-leading 11 goals, has been held without a point only once in 12 games. McDavid has recorded a point in nine of 10 games.

NBA – Lue jettisoned
The Cleveland Cavaliers have located a scapegoat for their worst start in 23 years. Head coach Tyronn Lue (TY’-rahn loo) has been fired and replaced by Larry Drew on an interim basis. The move comes a day after the Cavaliers fell to 0-6, their worst start since the 1995-96 Cavs opened 0-7. The move comes less than 2 1/2 years after Lue led the Cavaliers to the NBA championship. He helped the club put together a string of four straight trips to the finals. Cleveland was 128-83 under Lue.

NCAAFB – Record changes in Top 25 after 11 ranked losses
No. 22 Syracuse and No. 23 Virginia broke long runs of being unranked and were among a record seven teams to move into The Associated Press college football poll after a season-high 11 ranked teams lost this weekend. The top of the rankings was mostly unchanged. No. 1 Alabama, No. 4 LSU and No. 5 Michigan were idle and unchanged. No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Notre Dame won easily.   The College Football Playoff selection committee releases its first ranking of the season on Tuesday. The back end of the AP Top 25 was overhauled after nine of the 11 teams ranked Nos. 15-25 lost. Seven teams going from unranked to ranked is the most since the AP poll expanded to 25 in 1989. Eleven ranked teams overall losing is the most since the weekend of Nov. 26, 2016. And eight ranked teams losing to unranked teams is also a record for the Top 25 era. Syracuse is ranked for the first time since 2001 and Virginia is in for the first time since 2011.

NASCAR – Logano pushes way to Martinsville win
Joey Logano claimed one of the four spots in NASCAR’s title race, but he didn’t make many friends at Martinsville Speedway. Logano won Sunday’s Cup race by bumping leader Martin Truex Jr.as they hurtled the finish line. Truex’s car spun sideways as he passed the checkered flag, but Logano managed to keep his Ford steady enough to claim the victory. Logano was booed by the Martinsville crowd and that included Truex, who stood next to his second-place car with his thumbs down as Logano was interviewed over the address system.  Denny Hamlin finished second, followed by Truex, Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski. Logano led 309 of the 500 laps Sunday in the opening race of the third round of the playoffs. Eight drivers are racing for four slots and a win earns an automatic berth into the championship event.

CFL – Manziel gets first CFL win in Alouettes’ victory over Argos
Johnny Manziel has his first Canadian Football League victory. The Heisman Trophy winner threw a touchdown pass to help the Montreal Alouettes beat the Toronto Argonauts 40-10 on Sunday.    Manziel had lost his six previous games with Montreal. “I’m damn excited,” Manziel said. “It was a good win for our team. But finally to get the first win out of the way, and to do it at the end of the season where I feel we’re building into something, this season into the next season, it’s what we wanted to do. . . No matter how cold, how bad the weather was, today was fun.” Manziel was 7 of 14 for 139 yards and ran three times for 35 yards, all in the first half. He threw a 42-yard scoring pass to Will Stanback in the first quarter. Antonio Pipkin took over for Manziel in the second half. Montreal (4-13) will finish the season next week at Hamilton.
