Bojan Bogdanovic had 29 points and seven rebounds to lead the Indiana Pacers to a 116-92 victory over the short-handed Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night. Myles Turner had 17 points and six blocked shots, while Thaddeus Young and Darren Collison each scored 14 points for the Pacers, who won their fourth consecutive game. Montrezl Harrell had 19 points and Danilo Gallinari had 12 points and five rebounds for the Clippers, who have a roster in transition after the NBA’s trade deadline. The Pacers scored 13 straight during a 17-2 run late in the second quarter to pull away.

NBA – Trade Deadline
The Raptors made a major move at the NBA trade deadline as they try to catch the Milwaukee Bucks for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. A person has told The Associated Press the Raptors have picked up Marc Gasol from Memphis in a trade that sends Jonas Valanciunas to the Grizzlies. Gasol is averaging 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 53 games this season. Valanciunas has started just 10 of his 30 games this season but is averaging 12.8 points and 7.2 boards.
Former No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz has been dealt by the 76ers to the Magic for Jonathan Simmons, a 2020 first-round pick and a second-rounder this year. Fultz has played in only 33 games since being taken No. 1 overall in the 2017 draft, averaging 7.7 points and 3.4 rebounds.
The Pelicans have agreed to trade forward Nikola Mirotic to Milwaukee as part of a three-team deal that sends the Bucks’ Jason Smith and Detroit’s Stanley Johnson to New Orleans. The Pelicans also receive multiple second-round draft choices.
Nik Stauskas and Wade Baldwin are going from the Rockets to the Pacers in their third move this week. Stauskas and Baldwin have been members of the Trail Blazers, Cavaliers, Rockets and Pacers since Monday, and aren’t guaranteed of staying with Indiana.
NBA – King James and Giannis choose All Stars
The NBA All-Star game rosters are set following selections made by team captains LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo. James chose Kevin Durant with the first overall pick for the second straight year and picked former Cavaliers teammate Kyrie Irving. They’ll be joined in the Team LeBron starting five by Kawhi Leonard and James Harden. Antetokounmpo will start Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, Paul George and hometown favorite Kemba Walker for the Feb. 17 game in Charlotte. James took Anthony Davis among his reserves, along with Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Russell Westbrook, LaMarcus Aldridge, Karl-Anthony Towns and Bradley Beal. Antetokounmpo’s bench had Milwaukee teammate Khris Middleton, Nikola Jokic, Ben Simmons, Blake Griffin, D’Angelo Russell, Nikola Vucevic and Kyle Lowry. Simmons was subsequently sent to Team LeBron for Westbrook.

Emese Hof and Beatrice Mompremier had double-doubles for the No. 25-ranked Miami Hurricanes, who applied smothering defense to beat No. 4 Notre Dame 72-65 on Thursday night. The Fighting Irish were held to a season-low point total and shot 37 percent, also a season low. Hof had 21 points and 13 rebounds. Mompremier added 18 points and 12 rebounds for her 18th double-double, the most in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Students swarmed the court after the win _ this matched the highest-ranked team that Hurricanes (20-5, 8-2 ACC) have beaten, having also topped No. 4 Notre Dame in 2015. The Fighting Irish (21-3, 8-2) fell out of a tie for the league lead. Notre Dame also lost to unranked North Carolina. Jessica Shepard led Notre Dame with 17 points.

Megan Gustafson poured in 41 points and grabbed 14 rebounds Thursday night to lead No. 16 Iowa to an 86-71 win over No. 23 Michigan State. Kathleen Doyle added 18 points with four 3-pointers, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Hawkeyes (18-5, 9-3 Big Ten Conference). Freshman Nia Clouden, who scored a career-high 27 in the first meeting, led the Spartans (16-6, 6-5), who had won three straight, with 20 points, 10 in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Nas Hillmon came off the bench to lead Michigan with a game high 18 points and 11 rebounds to giver the Wolveriens at 67-61 win over Nebraska. Akienreh Johnson added 14 points for the Wolverines.

Jonathan Marchessault scored twice in a three-goal second period for Vegas, and the Golden Knights beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Thursday night. William Karlsson and Brayden McNabb also scored to help Vegas snap Detroit’s three-game winning streak. Gustav Nyquist, Michael Rasmussen and Thomas Vanek scored for the Red Wings. Vegas snapped a four-game losing streak with a shootout win over NHL-leading Tampa Bay on Tuesday night, and now the Golden Knights have back-to-back wins to their credit. Dylan Larkin returned for the Red Wings after missing a game with an oblique injury, and he had two assists, including a secondary one on the game’s first goal. Justin Abdelkader’s backhander in the first period was stopped by Marc-Andre Fleury, but the goalie left the puck loose behind him, and Nyquist converted for his 13th goal of the season.
Blackhawks 4, Canucks 3 – OT – Toews OT goal sends Blackhawks past Canucks to 6th straight win
Jonathan Toews scored 3:21 into overtime to lift the Chicago Blackhawks over the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 on Thursday night for their season-high sixth straight win. Alex DeBrincat scored twice before Toews ended it with his 24th goal to cap a flashy individual effort. Chicago’s captain skated in from the blue line, slipped past Christopher Tanev with a quick move and snapped a shot past goalie Jacob Markstrom. Vancouver rookie Elias Pettersson scored a power-play goal with Markstrom pulled for an extra attacker to tie it with 1:52 left. Brandon Saad also scored and Dylan Strome had three assists for the Blackhawks, who have climbed back into the crowded fray for a wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Patrick Kane had an assist to extend his point streak to 13 games.
MLB – Frank Robinson dies at 83
Hall of Fame outfielder Frank Robinson has died at 83. Robinson is the only player to earn the MVP award in both leagues and became the first black manager when he took over the Cleveland Indians in 1975. He took MVP honors while helping the 1961 Reds win the NL pennant, then earned another MVP plaque while winning the Triple Crown and a World Series with the 1966 Orioles. The menacing slugger ranked fourth in major league history with 586 home runs when he retired as a player in 1976. He worked in Major League Baseball’s front office and also served as manager of the Giants, Orioles, Expos and Nationals. Robinson has been in failing health and in hospice care at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles.
MLB – DL shelved: Baseball’s disabled list becomes injured list
Major League Baseball is changing the name of its disabled lists to injured lists. Deputy Commissioner Dan Halem said Thursday the change is being made at the suggestion of advocacy groups for the disabled, including the Link20 Network. Clubs were notified of the change in a Dec. 20 memo to clubs from Jeff Pfeifer, senior director of league economics and operations in the commissioner’s office. The change was first reported by ESPN. “In recent years, the commissioner has received several inquiries regarding the name of the `Disabled List,”’ Pfeifer wrote. “The principal concern is that using the term `disabled’ for players who are injured supports the misconception that people with disabilities are injured and therefore are not able to participate or compete in sports. As a result, Major League Baseball has agreed to change the name `Disabled List’ to be the `Injured List’ at both the major and minor league levels. All standards and requirements for placement, reinstatement, etc., shall remain unchanged. This change, which is only a rebranding of the name itself, is effective immediately.” The major leagues have had disabled lists of 10 and 60 days, plus a seven-day list only for players with concussions. MLB has proposed to the players’ association that the 10-day list go back to a 15-day minimum, its level before 2017.
NFL – Colts bring back longtime offensive line coach Mudd to staff
The Indianapolis Colts have rehired Howard Mudd as a senior offensive assistant. Coach Frank Reich also announced Thursday that Klayton Adams will be Indy’s new assistant offensive line coach and Marcus Brady has been promoted from assistant quarterbacks coach to quarterbacks coach. Mudd spent 12 seasons as the Colts offensive line coach during the Peyton Manning era. He has more than 40 years of NFL experience, including eight seasons as player. He’s coached with the San Diego Chargers, San Francisco, Seattle, Cleveland, Kansas City and Philadelphia. Adams was hired as Wyoming’s offensive coordinator last month after spending 14 seasons on college staffs. Brady was Indianapolis’ assistant quarterbacks coach last season after 16 years in the CFL.
