Hamels (7-8) got the win, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out two. Shawn Tolleson, the third Rangers reliever, pitched the ninth for his 25th save. Matt Boyd (1-4) gave up three runs on five hits and three walks in six innings. Mitch Moreland put Texas ahead with a two-run double in the sixth. Cubs 9, Braves 3 – Bryant 2 HRs, fan hurt as Cubs hand Braves 7th straight loss
Kris Bryant homered twice and Kyle Schwarber connected an inning after hitting a hard foul ball that sent a fan to the hospital Sunday as the Chicago Cubs beat Atlanta 9-3, the Braves’ seventh straight loss. The game was briefly delayed in the first inning after Schwarber’s foul liner hit a female fan sitting just past the camera well on the first base side. The woman was carried off on a stretcher and taken to a hospital. The Cubs said the woman was conscious. Several fans around the majors have been hit this season, and Major League Baseball has said it is studying the issue of crowd safety. The Cubs hit five home runs, including a leadoff shot by Dexter Fowler in the first inning and a three-run drive by Miguel Montero. Jason Hammel (7-5) allowed two runs in 6 1-3 innings.

MLB – Piece of concrete falls at Comerica Park after Tigers game
An official with the Detroit Tigers says no one was hurt when a piece of concrete fell onto a Comerica Park concourse after a game at the baseball stadium. Ron Colangelo, the team’s vice president of communications, says stadium operations reported a piece of a concrete fell at the 100-level concourse after Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers. He says the stadium was “pretty clear at the time.” Colangelo tells the Detroit Free Press that officials will look into what caused the concrete to fall. He says they’ve isolated the area. The Tigers’ next scheduled game at Comerica Park is Tuesday night. The team played its first season there in 2000.

MLB – Fan hit by foul ball at Wrigley Field, taken to hospital
A fan was struck by a line-drive foul ball and taken away on a stretcher in the first inning of Sunday’s game between the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field.  Kyle Schwarber lined a foul ball just beyond the camera well on the first base side, striking the fan. Cubs first base coach Brandon Hyde reacted by putting his hands on his helmet after he saw the fan get hit.    The game was briefly stopped as fans and ushers waved for medics. On Friday, a female fan in Detroit was injured by a foul ball behind the Tigers dugout.
NFL – Lions activate LaAdrian Waddle, Jason Jones
The Detroit Lions activated offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle and defensive end Jason Jones from the physically-unable-to-perform list Sunday. Waddle was sidelined by partially torn anterior cruciate ligament, and Jones had a minor surgical procedure on his knee. Both players participated in practice Sunday. Rookie cornerback Alex Carter returned to practice. He has missed most of camp with an ankle injury. The Lions also announced the signings of linebacker Justin Cherocci and defensive end Erik Williams.

NFL – Packers WR Jordy Nelson leaves with knee injury
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson left Sunday’s exhibition game against Pittsburgh in the first quarter with a torn left ACL. Nelson fell to the ground when he tried to cut after making an 8-yard reception on Green Bay’s opening drive.  The Packers also lost starting guard T.J. Lang to a concussion.

Golf – PGA – Love scores, Tiger falters
Davis Love III has won the Wyndham Championship to become the third-oldest winner in PGA Tour history, while Tiger Woods’ season came to an abrupt end. The 51-year-old Love closed with a 6-under 64 for a one-stroke victory over third-round leader Jason Gore. Woods needed a win to earn a spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs opener next week.  He started just two shots off the pace but shot a par 70 to finish four back.

Golf – LPGA – Ko wins again in BC
Lydia Ko has won the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open for the third time and first as a professional, beating Stacy Lewis with a par on the first hole of a playoff. The 18-year-old Ko finished with an even-par 72 to match Lewis at 12-under 276 at Vancouver Golf Club.

NCAA Football – Buckeyes top AP poll
Ohio State is the first unanimous preseason No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll.  The defending national champions received all 61 first-place votes from the media panel in the rankings. Since preseason rankings began in 1950, no team has received more than 97 percent of the first-place votes in a preseason poll.  TCU is No. 2, followed by Alabama, Baylor and Michigan State. The rest of this year’s preseason top 10 is Auburn, Oregon, Southern California, Georgia and Florida State.

Tennis – Federer, Serena wins Cincinnati Titles
Roger Federer remained perfect in Cincinnati finals, winning an unprecedented seventh championship Sunday while denying Novak Djokovic the one title that always eludes him. Federer never faced a break point during a 7-6 (1), 6-3 victory at the Western & Southern Open.  The Swiss star is 7-0 in Cincinnati finals. By contrast, the top-ranked Djokovic is 0-5 in Cincinnati championship matches, never winning so much as one set. Djokovic badly wanted to win Sunday and become the first player to take all of the nine current ATP Masters events. He joked that he’ll have to wait until Federer retires to finally win it. On the women’s side, Serena Williams won her second straight title, beating Simona Halep 6-3, 7-6 (5).
