MLB – Major League Baseball
Yesterday
Detroit Tigers 6, Minnesota Twins 5
Chicago White Sox 7, Baltimore Orioles 1
Atlanta Braves 4, Chicago Cubs 3 – 10 Innings

Tigers 6, Twins 5 – Saltalamacchia lifts streaking Tigers over Twins, 6-5
Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, Nick Castellanos hit a three-run homer and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 6-5 Sunday for their fifth straight victory. Saltalamacchia’s drive to left field off reliever Ryan Pressly (1-2) allowed Justin Upton to score from first. Twins shortstop Eduardo Escobar could’ve had a play at the plate, but he bobbled the ball on the relay throw. Mark Lowe (1-0) pitched a perfect seventh for the win. Justin Wilson worked a scoreless eighth and Francisco Rodriguez converted his seventh save in eight opportunities. Detroit swept the three-game series and extended its longest winning streak of the season.

White Sox 7, Orioles 1 – Sale stays unbeaten as White Sox beat Orioles 7-1 for split
Chris Sale took a shutout into the sixth inning, Brett Lawrie homered for the third straight day and the Chicago White Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 Sunday for a split of the four-game series. Jerry Sands had two RBIs for the White Sox, who took a control with a five-run fifth inning against Ubaldo Jimenez (1-3). Off to the best start of his career, Sale (6-0) allowed one run, five hits and four walks over 5 1/3 innings. The left-hander is the first White Sox pitcher to win his first six starts in a season since Jon Garland went 8-0 in 2005. Sale did not have a perfect inning, and the four walks were only one less than he totaled in his first five starts. But the Orioles didn’t get a runner to third base until after he left.

Braves 4, Cubs 3 – F/10 – Short-handed Braves rally in 10th to knock off Cubs 4-3
Daniel Castro singled and scored on Nick Markakis’ sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, and the short-handed Atlanta Braves picked up a rare victory by beating the major league-leading Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Sunday. Jason Grilli pitched a scoreless 10th for his second save and the Braves won for just the sixth time in 24 games despite blowing a 3-0 after Julio Teheran threw seven scoreless innings. Atlanta’s morning transaction snafu _ Major League Baseball voided Emilio Bonifacio’s promotion from the minors because he wasn’t eligible for the 25-man roster _ left the Braves down a player. Addison Russell’s one-out single in the ninth off Arodys Vizcaino (1-0) tied it for the Cubs, who scored two in the eighth. Hector Rondon (0-1) allowed two hits in the 10th as the Cubs’ four-game winning streak was snapped.

NHL – Sharks name stray cat that ran on ice after team captain
The stray cat that ran on the ice before San Jose’s second-round series opener now has a name but is still looking for a permanent home. The Sharks said Sunday that the black cat that appeared during warmups Friday night will now be called “Joe PAW-velski” in honor of San Jose captain Joe Pavelski. The cat was recovered by arena staff after leaving the ice and will be sent to an animal shelter where it will undergo a full health examination and a microchip scan, to ensure it does not already have an owner. If the cat is healthy and has no microchip, the Sharks say it will be put up for adoption.

NFL Draft – MSU’s Cook, now a Raider
Connor Cook is the winningest quarterback in Michigan State history, but that didn’t mean very much in the NFL draft.  Cook watched as six quarterbacks came off the board before he was selected by Oakland with the second pick of the fourth round on Saturday. The 6-foot-4 Cook set school records with 9,194 yards passing and 71 touchdown passes for the Spartans.

NFL – Bears release veteran safety Rolle after the draft
The Chicago Bears have parted ways with veteran safety Antrel Rolle. Rolle said Sunday on Twitter that he appreciated the opportunity the Bears gave him and that he is “looking forward to what is next.” The move comes after the Bears drafted two safeties _ Deon Bush of Miami in the fourth round and William & Mary’s DeAndre Houston-Carson in the sixth. Rolle, a three-time Pro Bowl pick, appeared in just seven games for Chicago last season after signing a three-year deal. He had one pass breakup and no interceptions before being placed on injured reserve in December because of a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Rolle had 26 interceptions over 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants before joining the Bears.

NCAA Basketball – Beachem says he’ll be back at Notre Dame for senior season
Forward V.J. Beachem has withdrawn his name from the NBA draft and will return to Notre Dame for his senior season. The 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward finished third on the team in scoring, averaging 12.0 points and 3.9 rebounds as the Irish finished 24-12.

NASCAR – Brad Keselowski wins crazy crash-fest at Talladega
Rochester Hills, Michigan’s Brad Keselowski took the checkered flag in the crash-marred, Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway. Chris Buescher’s car flipped three times in an early crash, and Matt Kenseth was turned upside down in the closing laps. Only 21 of the 40 cars finished on the lead lap, and 12 cars were ruled out of the race. Kyle Busch finished second, followed by Austin Dillon, Jamie McMurray and pole-sitter Chase Elliott. Busch is within nine points of Kevin Harvick in the points race.

Golf – PGA – Bad weather continues
Tournament officials have trimmed the PGA’s Zurich Classic to 54 holes following another day of wet weather. Jhonattan Vegas birdied two of five holes he was able to play on Sunday to pull into a tie for the lead with Brian Stuard at 13 under. Both players will resume Monday on the sixth hole.  Bobby Wyatt was third at minus-12 following an eagle and four birdies on the front nine in his third round. Jamie Lovemark was fourth at 11 under with 13 holes left.
