Tigers 6, Orioles 5 – Tigers end slide with 6-5 comeback win over Orioles
J.D. Martinez and Miguel Cabrera homered on consecutive pitches in the eighth inning, and the Detroit Tigers rallied past the Orioles 6-5 Sunday to end Baltimore’s seven-game winning streak.  The home runs came against Darren O’Day, who fanned the first two batters in the eighth with Baltimore up 5-4. O’Day (2-1) thought he struck out the side when Martinez checked his swing with two strikes, but first base umpire Mark Wegner ruled the batter did not go around. Martinez hit the sidearmer’s next pitch over the center-field wall, and Cabrera followed with a drive to left. The victory was only the second in 13 games for the Tigers, who stranded 11 and went 3 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

Yankees 7, White Sox 5 – Headley, Yankees wrap up successful homestand, top White Sox
Still leading the AL Central by a comfortable margin, Adam Eaton and the Chicago White Sox headed home, eager for a break. The White Sox broke down in too many places and lost for the 13th time in their last 15 games at Yankee Stadium, 7-5 Sunday. An untimely error by second baseman Brett Lawrie, a poor start by Miguel Gonzalez and a shaky bullpen left Chicago 2-4 on its swing through Texas and New York. Eaton was a bright spot, hitting a home run and also squeezing home a run. The White Sox have dropped four of five overall. The Yankees overcame a hiccup by reliever Dellin Betances to finish 7-3 against the White Sox, Kansas City and Boston, a much-needed boost for the last-place team.

Pirates 2, Cubs 1 – Pirates end Lester no-hit bid in 7th, edge Cubs behind Cole
Starling Marte singled with one out in the seventh inning to end Jon Lester’s no-hit bid, then scored on Jung Ho Kang’s double to put Gerrit Cole and the Pittsburgh Pirates ahead to stay in a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Kang added an eighth-inning home run to help the Pirates beat the major league-leading Cubs for the first time in six tries this season.  Cole (4-3) allowed three hits in eight shutout innings. Mark Melancon gave up a run in a shaky ninth but held on for his 11th save in 12 chances. Lester (4-2), who threw a no-hitter with Boston in 2008, had permitted only two walks and retired 16 straight batters before Marte’s opposite-field liner to right on a changeup. Marte stole second and scored on Kang’s drive to the gap in right-center, chasing Lester after 109 pitches. He struck out nine.

Jason Day has completed a wire-to-wire win at The Players Championship while taking a firmer grasp on the No. 1 ranking. Day closed with a 1-under 71 for a 15-under total, four strokes better than Kevin Chappell. The 28-year-old Australian led by at least two shots the entire final round and played bogey-free again on the back nine at the TPC Sawgrass. Day has won seven titles in the last 10 months, including one major, a World Golf Championship and a pair of FedEx Cup playoff events. Americans Justin Thomas, Matt Kuchar, Colt Knost and Ken Duke tied for third at minus-10.

NASCAR – Kenseth holds off Larson for thrilling victory at Dover
Matt Kenseth held off Kyle Larson in a thrilling run down the stretch to win a wreck-filled race Sunday at Dover International Speedway. Kenseth raced to his first victory of the season and denied Larson his first career win. Kenseth and Larson battled door-to-door for part of the final five laps and the 2003 NASCAR champion picked all the right lines and pulled away at the end. Chase Elliott finished third in the No. 24 Chevrolet. Larson matched his career-best finish and Elliott had the top finish of his rookie season. He was the seventh different driver to win a race and joined his three Joe Gibbs Racing teammates in victory lane for 2015. Kenseth, Larson and Elliott were among the survivors after Jimmie Johnson triggered a late-race crash that eliminated several contenders.

EPL – Premier League match called off because of bomb threat
Manchester United’s season-ending Premier League match against Bournemouth at Old Trafford was postponed after a suspicious package was found at the stadium. Police initially tweeted that the package contained an “explosive device” that was “incredibly lifelike.” The venue was evacuated before stadium police determined the device was a fake bomb that had been left in the stadium following an earlier security exercise. The scare comes just days after Britain raised its terror alert against Irish extremism.   The match is now slated for Tuesday.
