Indians 6, Tigers 3 – Indians overcome Carrasco injury, sweep Tigers
Francisco Lindor got three hits and the Cleveland Indians overcame an early injury to starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco to beat the Detroit Tigers 6-3 Sunday, finishing off a three-game sweep. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus juggled his lineup, leaving slumping Miguel Cabrera and Justin Upton on the bench. A day after Ausmus kept the clubhouse closed for a half-hour after a loss, Detroit dropped its fourth in a row and fell for the seventh time in nine games. Carrasco and Tigers starter Shane Greene (1-2) both left the game with injuries in a span of about 15 minutes. Carrasco hurt his right hamstring on an awkward play while covering first base and Greene broke open a blister on his pitching hand. Trevor Bauer (1-0) picked up the win, allowing two runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief. Cody Allen pitched the ninth for his sixth save.

White Sox 4, Rangers 1 – Mat Latos improves to 4-0 as White Sox beat Rangers 4-1
Mat Latos pitched six solid innings for his fourth consecutive win, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Texas Rangers 4-1 on Sunday. Latos (4-0), who signed a $3 million, one-year deal with Chicago in February, was charged with one run and seven hits. The 6-foot-6 right-hander has allowed two earned runs in 24 1/3 innings while matching his win total from all of last season. David Robertson struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save.

Cubs 9, Reds 0 – Rizzo’s 2 homers, 4 runs lead Cubs to 9-0 rout of Reds
Anthony Rizzo drove in four runs with his 10th career two-homer game, Jason Hammel pitched six scoreless innings and the Chicago Cubs routed the Cincinnati Reds 9-0 on Sunday to improve to 14-5 for the first time in 47 years. Tommy La Stella hit two doubles and his first homer of the season and Jason Heyward had four hits and 3 RBIs as the Cubs rebounded from their worst loss of the season, 13-5, on Saturday. Despite that loss, Chicago outscored Cincinnati 38-14 in the four-game series, which started Thursday with Jake Arrieta’s 16-0 no-hitter. The Cubs have won six of their seven games against the Reds this season and nine of their last 10 over the last two seasons. Chicago’s record over 19 games is its best since the 1969 team started 14-5. Hammel (3-0) allowed three hits with two walks and a season-high seven strikeouts. Cincinnati’s Alfredo Simon (0-2) allowed nine hits and eight runs with one walk and three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.

MLB – Tigers RHP Greene leaves start vs Indians with blister
Detroit Tigers starter Shane Greene left Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Indians in the fourth inning with a blister on his pitching hand. After walking the first batter of the inning, the right-hander signaled to the bullpen and was joined by manager Brad Ausmus and trainer Kevin Rand. After a brief conversation, Greene left the game and was replaced by Drew VerHagen. Greene finished last season on the disabled list because of a circulatory problem that caused numbness in his right hand. This, though, was a simple burst blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand.  He left the game about 15 minutes after Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco came out with a leg injury.

MLB – White Sox catcher Alex Avila on DL with hamstring injury
The White Sox placed catcher Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list this weekend because of an injured right hamstring. Chicago recalled Kevan Smith from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday before the series finale against the Texas Rangers.

Kyrie Irving scored 20 of his 31 points in the second half, and the Cleveland Cavaliers finished off a four-game sweep of the Detroit Pistons, holding on for a 100-98 victory Sunday night. The Cavs advance to the second round to play either Atlanta or Boston. LeBron James had 22 points for Cleveland, but it was Irving who made the biggest shots all night. His midcourt buzzer beater put the Cavs up 81-78 after the third quarter, and with Cleveland clinging to a one-point lead in the final minute, he calmly sank a 3-pointer from the right wing with 42 seconds remaining. Detroit still had a chance at the end, but Reggie Jackson’s wild shot at the buzzer was off the mark.

The Lakers finished with the NBA’s second-worst record at 17-65 this season, losing four more games than in its previous franchise-worst season in 2014-15.
