Martinez, who was off to a slow start this spring, also singled to raise his batting average to .182. Boyd allowed two hits and struck out one. The left-hander was a combined 1-6 with the Blue Jays and Tigers last season.  Fulmer, acquired from the New York Mets in the trade for Yoenis Cespedes last summer, struck out three. MLB – White Sox and OF Austin Jackson agree to 1-year deal
The Chicago White Sox bolstered their outfield depth when free agent Austin Jackson agreed to a $5 million, one-year contract Sunday. Jackson played for Seattle and the Chicago Cubs last season, batting .267 with nine homers and 48 RBIs in 136 games. He is a .273 hitter with 55 homers, 296 RBIs and 106 steals in 860 career games. The White Sox had been searching for outfield depth for much of the winter. Center fielder Adam Eaton is coming back from offseason shoulder surgery, and right fielder Avisail Garcia is coming off a so-so season, leaving manager Robin Ventura with a thin bench. “Austin provides us with another talented outfield option,” White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said. “His addition to the roster provides Robin with additional flexibility from both a defensive and offensive standpoint.” The 29-year-old Jackson has played mostly center field during his six seasons in the majors. The move returns Jackson to the AL Central after he made his major league debut with Detroit in 2010. He played for the Tigers for four-plus seasons before he was traded to Seattle in a 2014 deadline deal that moved ace David Price from Tampa Bay to Detroit.  To make room for Jackson on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated third baseman Mike Olt for assignment.

NFL – Manning calls it quits
Peyton Manning is going out on top. The almost 40-year-old Manning goes out as a champion just a month after Denver beat Carolina for the title.  It came just four seasons after a series of neck surgeries put his career in doubt and prompted the Indianapolis Colts to give up on him.  The following year, he won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award with Denver. The five-time NFL MVP is the only quarterback to achieve 200 wins in a career. His league-record 539 touchdown passes include an NFL-best 55 in 2013.  Those are among his dozens of NFL passing records.

Keselowski overcame an early speeding penalty and drove his Team Penske Ford to his first Sprint Cup Series victory of the season.

Indiana University announced Sunday that it was kicking off a $170 million athletic department fundraising campaign that will help fund football stadium upgrades and other projects.  The plan includes adding an Excellence Academy in the south end of Memorial Stadium, a $50 million project that will enclose both ends of the stadium. The new facility will house training tables and a wellness center for athletes and will allow the Hoosiers to renovate the football team’s locker room. The $50 million project will add no more than a few hundred seats at the football facility. Other projects include adding a $15 million indoor arena for volleyball and wrestling matches, continued renovations to the basketball team’s Assembly Hall, and new modifications on the university’s golf course and the soccer team’s Armstrong Stadium.
