Broncos 24, Panthers 10 – Broncos D dominates Panthers in 24-10 Super Bowl win
Von Miller forced two fumbles to set up Denver’s two touchdowns and the Broncos defense frustrated Cam Newton all game to carry Peyton Manning to his second Super Bowl title with a 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Manning threw for just 141 yards and committed two turnovers in one of the least productive games of his brilliant career that could be coming to an end.  But with Miller leading a defense that recorded a Super Bowl record-tying seven sacks and forced four turnovers for the Broncos (15-4), Manning ended an up-and-down, injury-riddled season with another title to go with the one he won with Indianapolis nine years ago. Newton’s MVP season ended in disappointment for the Panthers (17-2). He lost two fumbles, threw an interception and failed to produce a touchdown for the only time this season.

NFL – Bronco fans celebrate Super Bowl win in Denver streets
Bronco fans have taken their celebration of Denver’s Super Bowl victory over the Carolina Panthers to downtown streets.  Scores of fans gathered Sunday night in central Denver for impromptu partying. Longtime supporter Susan Tomlinson summed it up for many: “I’ve been a Broncos fan for 45 years. Way to go! What a run off for (Peyton) Manning for his last rodeo.” There were a handful of arrests but Denver police for the most part watched the celebration from the sidewalk. At one point, several dozen police formed a united front near the 16th Street pedestrian mall to disperse a crowd trying to make its way down the street. The Denver Post says police did use pepper spray on some people, and a window on a police cruiser was shattered in an area where people tossed trash cans in the street.

NFL – Running back indicates he’s retiring
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is indicating he’s retiring. Lynch turns 30 in April.  Lynch sent a tweet during the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s Super Bowl with a pair of cleats hanging from a power line, along with an emoji depicting a peace sign. Lynch’s tweet was immediately followed by statement of thanks and congratulations from teammates including Richard Sherman and Bruce Irvin. Seattle general manager John Schneider indicated in a pair of radio interviews after the Seahawks’ season that Lynch was leaning toward retirement.

NBA – NBA reviewing if jump-on-back foul should be flagrant
The NBA is reviewing whether the act of jumping on a player’s back to intentionally foul him should be interpreted as a flagrant foul. Dwight Howard and Andre Drummond have both been subjected to the act, when a player jumped on their backs to send the poor free throw shooters to the line.  They are frequently fouled intentionally away from the ball, along with the Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan, because they are among the league’s worst free throw shooters. Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens told reporters Sunday that a memo from the NBA said that act would now be ruled as a flagrant 1 foul. But a league spokesman says there has been no rule change, only that league officials are discussing how the play should be interpreted. If it became a flagrant 1, the team that was fouled would keep possession after the two free throws.
