#6 Michigan State 88, Penn State 57 – No. 6 Michigan State beats Penn State 88-57 after slow start
Denzel Valentine started slow and finished strong with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists to help No. 6 Michigan State beat Penn State 88-57 on Sunday.  The Spartans (24-5, 11-5 Big Ten) have won four straight and eight of nine. The Nittany Lions (15-14, 6-10) had won three straight and four of five, including victories over then-No. 4 Iowa and then-No. 22 Indiana. Penn State coach Patrick Chambers was ejected with 4:53 left in the first half when he was called for two technical fouls within the same rant. Chambers had to be held back by his coaching staff as he tried to charge toward officials more than once before leaving the court. Valentine missed his first six shots and made more than half his shots the rest of the game.

Wisconsin 68, Michigan 57 – Koenig, Happ help spark Wisconsin in 68-57 win over Michigan
Bronson Koenig scored 19 points, and Ethan Happ helped trigger a second-half surge with clutch plays on both ends of the floor in Wisconsin’s 68-57 victory Sunday over Michigan. Happ finished with 12 points and six rebounds for the Badgers (19-10, 11-5 Big Ten), who have won 10 of their last 11 games. Wisconsin opened some breathing room in a spirited game with an 8-0 run in the middle of the second half that started with Happ on the bench. The 6-foot-9 freshman forward came back with 11:44 left and stole a Michigan entry pass before driving to the bucket for a layup at the other end. The conference leader in steals added two more against Michigan and blocked two shots. Vitto Brown gave Wisconsin a boost from the perimeter after hitting 4 of 6 from 3-point range and finished with 14 points.  Zak Irvin scored 14 points for Michigan (20-10, 10-7).

He finished the 40-yard dash in 4.86 seconds, then tied Clemson’s Shaq Lawson for second in the 20-yard shuttle at 4.21 before finishing second in the three-cone drill at 6.89. MLB – MLB sends reminder: No dipping at Fenway, Dodger Stadium, SF
Big leaguers are getting a reminder that smokeless tobacco is banned this season at stadiums in Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. One-page letters are being put in clubhouse lockers at spring training. The notices come jointly from Major League Baseball and the players’ union. Local ordinances will prohibit smokeless tobacco from Fenway Park, Dodger Stadium and AT&T Park this year. There is similar legislation being considered in New York City, and both the Mets and Yankees say they support such a ban. Smokeless tobacco isn’t permitted throughout the minor leagues. There is no outright ban on dipping in the majors, and the issue is certain to be discussed in upcoming labor talks between MLB and the union.

NASCAR – Johnson wins
Jimmie Johnson has climbed up NASCAR’s all-time victory list by taking the second race of the Sprint Cup season. Johnson used pit strategy and a late yellow to claim the 76th victory of his career at Atlanta Motor Speedway, tying Dale Earnhardt for seventh on the career wins list. He won the race in overtime, crossing the line under yellow following the only wreck of the day.  Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished second, followed by Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards. Kyle Busch won the pole Friday but had to start last after his car failed a post-qualifying inspection. Kevin Harvick led a race-high 131 laps but ceded the lead after he made his last green-flag pit stop nine laps after Johnson.

Golf – PGA – Scott takes first
Adam Scott closed with an even par 70 to win the PGA’s Honda Classic. Scott ended a 33-month winless drought on the tour by finishing play at 9-under, one shot in front of Sergio Garcia. Blayne Barber and Justin Thomas tied for third at minus-5.

Golf – LPGA – Thompson wins
American Lexi Thompson has won her seventh LPGA title by taking the event in Thailand. She closed with a 68 that completed a six-stroke victory over In Gee Chun of South Korea. The 21-year-old Thompson hit an eagle on the 10th to go along with three birdies and a lone bogey for a 20-under-par total of 268 to become the first American winner of the tournament.
