Lions 24, Saints 23 – Lions rally late for 24-23 win over Saints
Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes in the final 3:38, including the winner to Corey Fuller with 1:48 remaining, and the Detroit Lions rallied for a 24-23 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Saints (2-4) were in control late in the fourth quarter when Stafford found Golden Tate for a 73-yard catch-and-run that made it 23-17. Then Drew Brees was intercepted on third down by Glover Quin, whose 23-yard return gave the Lions (5-2) the ball at the New Orleans 14. Detroit caught a break when Rafael Bush was called for pass interference on fourth down. Stafford eventually connected with Fuller in the back of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown and the win. The Saints committed 12 penalties for 134 yards.  Benton Harbor’s Joique Bell caught two passes for 19 yards, and had 18 carries for 48 yards and a touchdown for the Lions.

Dolphins 27, Bears 14 – Tannehill leads Dolphins past Bears 27-14
Ryan Tannehill threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns in an efficient performance, and the Miami Dolphins beat the Chicago Bears 27-14 on Sunday.  Tannehill connected on his first 14 passes and was 25 of 32 overall, helping Miami bounce back from a brutal 27-24 loss to Green Bay. It looked as if the Dolphins were on their way to a big win over the Packers before Aaron Rodgers threw a 4-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds.  Lamar Miller also had a 2-yard touchdown run for the Dolphins (3-3), who had lost three of four since an opening victory over New England.  The Bears (3-4) remained winless in three home games this season and have dropped five of their last seven at Soldier Field. Matt Forte scored two touchdowns and Jeremiah Ratliff finished with a career-best 3 ½ sacks.

Colts 27, Bengals 0
The Colts had no trouble manhandling the Cincinnati Bengals in Indianapolis. The Colts, who lead the AFC South, blanked the Bengals, who began the day in first place in the AFC North, 27-0. Andrew Luck threw two touchdown passes in the win as the Colts improved to 5-2 while the Bengals fell to 3-2-1. Luck was 27 of 42 for 344 yards as Indianapolis won its fifth straight. It was Indy’s first shutout since December 2008. The Bengals, who haven’t won since starting 3-0, endured their first shutout since December 2009. The offense was so futile that the Bengals had a franchise record tying 11 punts. Conversely the Colts’ offense tore things up with 506 yards.

Packers 38, Panthers 17
Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes and the Green Bay Packers reached the end zone on their first three possessions on the way to a 38-17 romp over Carolina. Rodgers had 255 passing yards in just over three quarters, with Randall Cobb making six receptions for 121 yards and a TD. Jordy Nelson opened the scoring with a 59-yard scoring grab for the 5-2 Packers, who dropped the Panthers to 3-3-1.

NFL – Manning breaks Favre’s mark with 509th TD pass
Peyton Manning has added his name to another NFL record.  Manning has broken Brett Favre’s career mark for touchdown passes by tossing four more in the Denver Broncos’ 42-17 rout of the San Francisco 49ers. Manning was two behind Favre’s record of 508 when he began the game and was two ahead when it ended. Demayrius Thomas caught the record-breaking pass late in the first half, Manning’s third TD throw of the night. Manning was 22 of 26 for 318 yards and no interceptions. Thomas had eight receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns, and Ronnie Hillman ran for 74 yards and a pair of scores as the Broncos improved to 5-1. The Niners are 4-3.

NASCAR – Keselowski keeps title hopes alive at Talladega
Brad Keselowski pulled away in overtime for one of the biggest wins of his career and earned an automatic berth into the third round of NASCAR’s championship race.  Keselowski had to win Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway to stay alive in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. The sixth win of the season for the 2012 Sprint Cup champion was his biggest, and keeps him in the hunt for another title. But the Hendrick Motorsports trio of Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne all were eliminated from contention. Kyle Busch could not recover from an early wreck and also was eliminated from the Chase. Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth also advanced.
