Tigers 5, Mariners 4 (10 Innings) – Tigers win on walk-off wild pitch, earning sweep of Seattle
Pinch runner Cameron Maybin easily scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch by Steve Cishek (SEE’-shehk) with two outs in the 10th inning Thursday, giving the Detroit Tigers a 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners and a four-game sweep. The Mariners, who missed a chance when Robinson Cano struck out with a runner on third to end the 10th, lost their sixth in a row. Steven Moya drew a one-out walk from Cishek (2-4) and Maybin pinch ran. Pinch hitter Victor Martinez singled, with an error by left fielder Seth Smith on the play putting runners on second and third. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Andrew Romine struck out. Cishek then threw a pitch that catcher Chris Iannetta couldn’t corral, allowing Maybin to run home. Kyle Ryan (3-2), who worked out of a bases-loaded jam Wednesday night, earned the win by escaping another jam in the 10th.

Red Sox 8, White Sox 7 (10 Innings) – Red Sox beat White Sox 8-7 in 10 innings, avert 4-game sweep
Xander Bogaerts singled in the game-winning run in the 10th inning as the Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 8-7 on Thursday and averted a sweep of their four-game series. Chicago led 3-0, 4-1 and 7-5 before Boston sent it into extra innings with a run in the seventh and another in the eighth. The White Sox loaded the bases with nobody out in the 10th, but Craig Kimbrel (1-3) got J.B. Shuck on an infield popup and then struck out Tim Anderson and Adam Eaton. In the bottom half, Matt Purke (0-1) walked two before Bogaerts lined one up the middle and Mookie Betts scored easily from second. James Shields pitched his best outing since being acquired by the White Sox on June 4. Jose Abreu hit a three-run homer and Alex Avila had four hits for Chicago.

Marlins 4, Cubs 2 – 2 key hits by Giancarlo Stanton help Marlins beat Cubs 4-2
Giancarlo Stanton homered in the fourth inning and singled home the go-ahead run with two outs in the eighth, helping the Miami Marlins send the Chicago Cubs to their fourth consecutive defeat, 4-2 on Thursday night. Stanton’s two hits hiked his average to .216.  The Cubs still have the best record in the majors, despite their longest losing streak of the season. The game marked the start of a season-high 11-game trip for the Cubs. Jon Lester allowed only two runs in seven innings, but Miami ended his streak of wins in five consecutive starts. The Cubs’ David Ross led off the eighth with his sixth homer to make the score 2-all. Christian Yelich started Miami’s rally in the bottom of the eighth with a one-out walk against Pedro Strop (1-2). He advanced on a wild pitch and scored standing up on Stanton’s opposite-field single. J.T. Realmuto followed with an RBI double.

Olympics – James says Rio’s a no-go
The agent for LeBron James tells The Associated Press that the Cleveland Cavaliers forward will not play in the Rio Olympics. The 31-year-old James was named MVP of the Finals after leading the Cavs past Golden State, ending Cleveland’s 52-year championship drought. James has played in three Olympics and ranks as the team’s career leader in points and assists, while ranking second in rebounds.

NBA Draft – Sixers take Simmons with top pick
The Philadelphia 76ers used the first pick in Thursday’s NBA draft to select LSU freshman forward Ben Simmons, who averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists for the Tigers as a freshman last season. Duke freshman forward Brandon Ingram was the second player selected, grabbed by the Los Angeles Lakers. Boston chose third and took California freshman forward Jaylen Brown

NBA Draft – Bulls select Denzel Valentine with 14th pick in the draft
The Chicago Bulls found their Valentine after trading away their Rose. The Bulls took Michigan State shooting guard and small forward Denzel Valentine with the 14th overall pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday, opting for a wing player rather than a point guard after trading former MVP Derrick Rose to New York. The 2015 to 2016 Associated Press national player of the year, Valentine joins a team in transition after sending its former franchise player to the Knicks. The Rose deal brought one of the most successful and disappointing periods in the organization’s history to an end. It also left them with a void at point guard, something general manager Gar Forman said they will try to address this summer. Forman acknowledged the Bulls had talks about moving up in the draft and that they liked Providence point guard Kris Dunn, who went to Minnesota at Number 5. He also denied reports that the Bulls were in talks to send Jimmy Butler to either Minnesota or Boston.

NBA Draft – Pistons select Marquette forward Henry Ellenson in first
The Detroit Pistons selected Marquette forward Henry Ellenson with the number 18 pick in the NBA draft Thursday night. Ellenson averaged 17 points and 9.7 rebounds last season as a freshman. He also led the team with 49 blocked shots.  The 6-foot-11 Ellenson set school records for scoring and rebounding for a freshman. Although he is big enough to play around the basket, Ellenson can also run the floor and make jumpers. However, he shot only 29 percent from 3-point range in 2015-16. Detroit went 44-38 last season, making the playoffs for the first time since 2009. The Pistons were swept in the first round by Cleveland.  The Pistons have built around star center Andre Drummond, and Ellenson could add some more scoring punch inside.  Stan Van Gundy, Detroit’s coach and team president, said Ellenson was 10th in the Pistons’ draft board, so they were pleased he dropped all the way to No. 18. Van Gundy said the Pistons won’t rush Ellenson if he needs time to develop. Detroit’s starting forwards, Tobias Harris and Marcus Morris, are both 6-foot-9, so Ellenson could give the Pistons more size alongside Drummond. Detroit also could use more depth at point guard, but Vanderbilt’s Wade Baldwin went to Memphis, one pick ahead of Detroit.

NBA Draft – Pacers select LeVert at No. 20 for Nets to complete deal
The Indiana Pacers took Michigan forward Caris LeVert with the 20th pick in the NBA draft Thursday night and will send him to the Brooklyn Nets to complete a trade for forward Thaddeus Young.  The deal was known publicly a few hours before the draft, but won’t be officially announced until after the new salary cap takes effect.  Last season at Michigan, the 6-foot-7 LeVert averaged 16.5 points and 5.3 rebounds but only played in 15 games because of injuries.

NBA Draft – Boston still green
Michigan State freshman Deyonta Davis left Barclays Center after being passed up in the first round of the NBA Draft last night, but came back and was taken with first pick in the second round by the Boston Celtics (31st overall).   The Celtics who had a total of eight picks last night also took Notre Dame point guard Demetrius Jackson with the 45th pick.
