Minnesota Wild 4, St. Louis Blues 2                                           (MIN Leads 1-0)
Anaheim Ducks 4, Winnipeg Jets 2                                               (ANA Leads 1-0)

Red Wings 3, Lightning 2 – Mrazek, Datsyuk lift Red Wings over Bolts in Game 1
Pavel Datsyuk scored twice and Petr Mrazek had 44 saves in his NHL playoff debut to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference series Thursday night. Datsyuk scored on two of the first four shots the Red Wings got against Tampa Bay’s Ben Bishop. Luke Glendening’s short-handed goal gave Detroit a 3-1 lead early in the third period. Mrazek, named Detroit’s starter for Game 1 over veteran Jimmy Howard, gave up a short-handed goal to Brian Boyle in the first period and a late goal to Nikita Nesterov that enabled the Lightning to pull within 3-2. Tampa Bay outshot the Red Wings 46-14, but went 0 for 7 on the power play, failing to even get a shot off on the final opportunity in the game’s closing seconds.

NHL – Crawford back in net for Blackhawks in Game 2 vs. Nashville
Chicago coach Joel Quenneville is going back to veteran goaltender Corey Crawford for Game 2 against the Nashville Predators. Quenneville says Crawford will start tonight after being yanked Wednesday night after the first period. Crawford gave up three goals on 12 shots. Scott Darling stopped all 42 shots Wednesday night.

NHL – Stone has microfracture in slashed wrist
Ottawa says forward Mark Stone has suffered a microfracture of his right wrist after being slashed by Montreal’s P.K. Subban in the Canadiens’ Game 1 win on Wednesday. General manager Brian Murray says Stone’s status for the rest of the series is “very questionable.” Subban was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

MLB – Reports: Top prospect Kris Bryant headed to the Cubs
Prized prospect Kris Bryant looks to be on his way to the Chicago Cubs. Multiple outlets reported Thursday night that Bryant will be called up before Friday’s game against the San Diego Padres, clearing the way for his much-anticipated major league debut. The Cubs would not comment, but Bryant wrote on Twitter that his “dream is coming true” and that he is “so excited for this journey.” Bryant and agent Scott Boras made it clear they were not happy that he opened the season in the minors. He had a dominant spring training, but by waiting to call him up, the Cubs gained an extra year of control before he can hit free agency. Bryant hit .425 for the Cubs in spring training with nine homers and 15 RBIs in 40 at-bats.

NBA – For Bulls’ Rose, suiting up for playoffs long time in making
Derrick Rose had no interest in looking back, in discussing what might have been. All that mattered is that the Chicago Bulls open the playoffs at home Saturday against the Milwaukee Bucks and he expects to be in the lineup. Not since the 2012 playoff opener has he appeared in a postseason game, and not since the 2011 Eastern Conference finals have the Bulls had him for the duration of their run. It’s hard not to wonder if the Bulls would have emerged from the Eastern Conference at least once and maybe captured their first championship since the Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen era had their star point guard not suffered season-ending injuries to both knees.

WNBA – Loyd taken first in WNBA draft by Seattle
Jewell Loyd is the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft.  Loyd, who was chosen by the Seattle Storm on Thursday night, decided to skip her final season at Notre Dame and enter this year’s draft.  She’s the first Irish player to be taken with the top pick. Fellow underclassmen Amanda Zahui B. was taken by Tulsa with the second pick. Minnesota’s red-shirt sophomore and Loyd were eligible to be drafted because they turn 22 during this calendar year. Seattle took UConn forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis third, Connecticut Sun selected 6-foot-3 center Elizabeth Williams of Duke fourth, and Chicago took 6-foot-4 forward Cheyenne Parker of Middle Tennessee State fifth. The ceremony was held at the Mohegan Sun for the second straight year.

NFL – Vikes’ Peterson reinstated
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been cleared to return to the NFL after missing most of last season while facing child abuse charges in Texas.  Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter of reinstatement to Peterson and told him he would have to continue attending counseling while adhering to the league’s new personal conduct policy to avoid further discipline.  Peterson’s agent has said the star running back wants to play elsewhere next season, but the Vikings have no plans to trade him.

Golf – PGA – Spieth struggles
Jordan Spieth has followed his incredible Masters run by ending a string of 16 straight rounds under par. The 21-year old Spieth opened with a 3-over-par 74 at the RBC Heritage on Thursday, putting him in danger of missing the cut just a week after donning the green jacket.  He’s eight shots behind leaders Graeme McDowell and Matt Every, who were at 5-under 66. Sangmoon Bae is one stroke back.

Venerable race track bans selfie sticks
If you’re going to the Kentucky Derby on May 2, leave your selfie-stick at home. Joining a growing list of museums, music festivals and sports venues around the world, Churchill Downs has banned the obtrusive, pole-like contraptions that grasp cellphones and allow people a longer reach to snap their self-portraits and block the view for others. The race track says it’s a safety issue.
