Indians 9, Tigers 3 – Lindor drives in 3 runs, Indians top Tigers 9-3
Francisco Lindor hit a leadoff homer and drove in three runs, helping the Cleveland Indians beat Detroit 9-3 on Thursday night for their 11th consecutive victory against the Tigers. The Indians completed a four-game series sweep and improved to 31-10 against their AL Central rival since 2016. Jose Ramirez hit a two-run homer, and Trevor Bauer (1-1) struck out seven while pitching seven innings of two-run ball. Lindor, who entered the night batting .184 with one RBI, hit his fourth career leadoff homer off Michael Fulmer (1-2). He added a two-run double in the second and also scored three of Cleveland’s season-high nine runs. Jason Kipnis and Bradley Zimmer each had three hits for the Indians. Kipnis added two RBIs and Zimmer robbed Dixon Machado of an extra-base hit with a diving catch in the seventh.

Twins 4, White Sox 0 – Mauer gets 2,000th hit, Berrios pitches Twins past White Sox
Joe Mauer had downplayed his approaching milestone. But when the Target Field crowd rose to its feet to acknowledge the achievement, even the modest Mauer got a bit emotional. The native Minnesotan got his 2,000th career hit at home on Thursday night, and just as importantly for Mauer, it came in a Twins victory. Mauer had two hits and three RBIs, and Jose Berrios struck out 11 in seven innings for Minnesota in a 4-0 win against the Chicago White Sox. Mauer became the third Twins player (joining Rod Carew and Kirby Puckett), and the 12th active player, to reach 2,000 hits. He’s one of 287 players in history to reach the mark. Berrios (2-1) tied his career high for strikeouts and allowed just three hits for the second time in three starts this season. The right-hander is 4-1 with a 1.67 ERA in five starts against Chicago.  Chicago has lost eight of its past 10 games.

Pirates 6, Cubs 1 – Polanco homers twice to power Pirates past Cubs 6-1
Gregory Polanco homered twice to help back a third straight solid start by Trevor Williams, and the Pittsburgh Pirates pulled away from the Chicago Cubs  6-1 on Thursday. Francisco Cervelli lined a three-run shot in the seventh off Cubs reliever Justin Wilson as Pittsburgh scored four times in the inning to break open a tight game. Adam Frazier also went deep for Pittsburgh, which improved to 9-3. Kyle Schwarber homered, doubled and singled for three of the Cubs’ seven hits. Chicago’s Ian Happ had his first two-hit game this season. Williams (3-0) was a touch better than Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks (0-1) in what began as a pitchers’ duel following Chicago’s 13-5 rout of Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.

MLB – Tigers’ Bosio will miss couple of weeks with health issue
Tigers pitching coach Chris Bosio will be away from the team for a couple of weeks because of an undisclosed health issue. Manager Ron Gardenhire said the 55-year-old Bosio wanted to remain with the Tigers after undergoing tests this week, but doctors have recommended he rest for the time being. Bosio was in the Tigers’ dugout Monday night but wasn’t feeling well, which led to him having tests Tuesday. Gardenhire said Bosio and his wife, Heather, drove to their home in Detroit from Cleveland on Wednesday. Bosio will watch video and go over reports on Detroit’s pitchers while he’s out. Bullpen coach Rick Anderson has moved to the dugout. Minor league pitching coordinator A.J. Sager has worked in the bullpen this series, but could return to his usual duties within the next few days. Bosio is in his first season as Detroit’s pitching coach after serving in the same role for six years with the Chicago Cubs. He pitched for Milwaukee and Seattle from 1986-97.
