Knicks 106, Bulls 94 – Carmelo Anthony leads Knicks past Bulls, 106-94
Carmelo Anthony scored 26 points, Kristaps Porzingis had 19 and the New York Knicks beat the Chicago Bulls 106-94 on Thursday night to sweep the home-and-home series. Derrick Williams added 13 points, Jose Calderon 12, and Arron Afflalo 11 for New York. The Knicks beat the Bulls 115-107 on Wednesday night in Chicago. Derrick Rose led Chicago with 30 points. Jimmy Butler had 19, and Taj Gibson 10. Fighting for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the Bulls led only one time in the game _ at 8-7 on Gibson’s short jumper.

Red Wings 4, Canadiens 3 – Sheahan scores 2, helps Red Wings hold off Canadiens 4-3
Riley Sheahan scored a career-high two goals to help Detroit take a four-goal lead into the third period and the Red Wings held on to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 Thursday night. Sheahan’s second goal came 12 seconds after Luke Glendening scored early in the second, then Anthony Mantha’s first NHL goal gave the Red Wings a 4-0 lead late in the period. Montreal’s Tomas Plekanec scored in the opening minute of the third. Paul Byron and Max Pacioretty followed with goals to pull Montreal within a goal. Petr Mrazek kept the lead and had 26 saves for the Red Wings, who are in a tightly contested race for a wild-card spot in the hopes of extending their postseason streak to 25 seasons. Ben Scrivens stopped 36 shots for the Canadiens.

Perry Ellis scored 27 points, Wayne Selden Jr. added 19 and top-seeded Kansas topped No. 5 Maryland for a 79-63 NCAA Tournament South Region semifinal victory. That’s the Jayhawks’ 17th straight victory and sends them into Saturday’s South Regional final.

Villanova 92, Miami 69
In the other South Regional game in Louisville, second-seeded Villanova shot 63 percent in eliminating Miami 92-69 to reach the Elite Eight. Ryan Arcidiacono (ahr-chee-dee-ah-KOH’-noh) and Kris Jenkins combined to make 9 of 13 from behind the arc to score 21 points apiece.

Oklahoma 77, Texas A&M 63
Jordan Woodard scored 22 points and Buddy Hield (HEELD) had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the second-seeded Oklahoma Sooners to a 77-63 romp over cold-shooting Texas A&M in the NCAA West Regional. The Sooners advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2009.

Oregon 82, Duke 68
West top seed Oregon breezed past No. 4 seed Duke, 82-68, for the Ducks’ first trip to the Elite Eight since 2007. Dillon Brooks led the Oregon scoring parade with 22 points and added five rebounds and six assists.

Blue Jays 6, Tigers 4 – Dickey roughed up for Blue Jays in win over Tigers
Toronto knuckleballer R.A. Dickey was roughed up for four runs in five innings Thursday as the Blue Jays beat the Detroit Tigers 6-4. The 2012 NL Cy Young Award winner allowed two runs in the second on a single by James McCann and a throwing error by center fielder Kevin Pillar. Jose Iglesias hit an RBI single against Dickey in the fourth. Nick Castellanos homered in the fifth.

Angels 6, White Sox 5 – Trout hits 3-run homer off Sale, Angels beat White Sox
Mike Trout hit a three-run homer as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Chicago White Sox 6-5 Thursday. Angels reliever Tyler Skaggs gave up one run in two innings. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2014.

Cubs 16, Giants 14 – Arrieta leaves game early in Cubs 16-14 win over Giants
Jake Arrieta left the game in the first inning as the Chicago Cubs outlasted the San Francisco Giants 16-14 on Thursday night. The four-hour game had a combined 33 hits. That included three each by the Cubs Dexter Fowler and the Giants Joe Panik.

NFL – Bears agree to 1-year contract with receiver Thompson
The Chicago Bears and receiver Deonte Thompson have agreed to a one-year contract. Thompson played in seven games with the Bears last season, returning 14 kickoffs for 409 yards and two receptions for 81 yards. He was signed to Chicago’s practice squad in September and elevated to the active roster in November. In four seasons with Baltimore (2012-13), Buffalo (2014) and Chicago (2015), Thompson has 17 receptions for 228 yards and 36 kickoff returns for 999 yards.

NFL – RG3 heads to Cleveland
Robert Griffin III has signed a two-year, $15.75 million contract with the Cleveland Browns.  The former Heisman Trophy winner was released by Washington March 7 after four seasons.  His star fizzled quickly after a standout rookie season.  RG III didn’t play a single snap last season after being dropped to third string.  He joins a Browns team that recently parted ways with the troublesome Johnny Manziel, who like Griffin, arrived amid much fanfare, but wore out his welcome. Griffin has been given no promises by the Browns, who own the number two overall pick in the draft and are expected to select a quarterback.

Soccer – Chelsea-Real Madrid exhibition to be at Michigan Stadium
Chelsea’s preseason exhibition game against Real Madrid on July 30 will be played at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. The game was announced Tuesday, and the site was made public on Thursday. A 2014 exhibition between Manchester United and Real Madrid at Michigan Stadium drew 109,318, a record for soccer in the United States.

NASCAR – NASCAR hands out fines
Danica Patrick has been fined $20,000 by NASCAR for walking near the race track after a crash and Kyle Busch has been fined $10,000 for failing to meet media obligations at California.  Patrick has also been placed on probation for four races. Busch has also been placed on probation through April 27.

NCAA Hockey – 2016 NCAA Tournament
Michigan vs. Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament, Round II. This time, on ice. A week after the Fighting Irish knocked off the Wolverines in the men’s basketball tournament, the long-time rivals are going at it again, this time with a berth in the Frozen Four on the line. Michigan (24-7-5) faces Notre Dame (19-10-7) in a Midwest Regional semifinal on Thursday. Top-seeded Northeastern (22-13-5) plays North Dakota (30-6-4) in the other semifinal. Like most things Michigan-Notre Dame, this matchup comes with a whole lot of history.
