The New York Mets are in the NL championship series after Daniel Murphy went 3-for-4 with a tiebreaking homer and two RBIs in a 3-2 triumph over the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLDS at Los Angeles. Murphy snapped a 2-2 tie with a blast off Zack Greinke in the sixth, two innings after he went from first to third on a walk to Lucas Duda before scoring the tying run. Winning pitcher Jacob deGrom gave up two runs in the first inning but managed to last six frames before Jeurys Familia picked up the first six-out save of his career.

Since 2005, he’s played 431 major league games for nine different teams. Detroit general manager Al Avila said last week that Wilson would not remain on the roster.

Fantasy Sports – Fantasy sports sites facing civil suits amid cheating claims
Four lawsuits have been filed against the two biggest daily fantasy sports websites following allegations of cheating.  The cases have all been filed since last week, after it was revealed that a DraftKings employee won $350,000 playing football via rival FanDuel. The court papers say average customers wouldn’t have paid to compete on the sites knowing they were up against insiders with special knowledge. The lawsuits come amid increased scrutiny by regulators of the largely unregulated industry. New York’s attorney general has asked the companies to turn over details of their investigations into the cheating allegations. Regulators in Nevada ordered the sites there shut down.  The companies have said they’re conducting internal probes and have banned their employees from playing on other sites.

NCAA Football – Michigan’s surge pushes stakes even higher for MSU matchup
As well as Michigan is already playing under new coach Jim Harbaugh, it would be easy for the Wolverines to get a little ahead of themselves. It’s all a bit surreal, the idea that Michigan State is undefeated and yet Michigan is favored to beat the Spartans this weekend. The 12th-ranked Wolverines could try all they wanted to block out the hype, but Michigan’s resurgence has raised the stakes for Saturday’s game against seventh-ranked Michigan State. This is now much more than just a chance for Harbaugh to spoil the Spartans’ unbeaten run. The winner of this matchup, whoever it is, becomes a clear contender for a Big Ten title and a spot in college football’s playoff.

NCAA Basketball – Men’s – Wisconsin’s Ryan still not ruling out coaching next season
Wisconsin’s Bo Ryan still is not ruling out coaching next season. Ryan says he has not made up his mind. Ryan announced in late June that he planned to retire after this season. But he left the door open to staying on beyond that in August when he said he was “not totally sure” if he would step aside. On Thursday at the Big Ten’s annual media day, he said he is keeping that door open. Ryan led Wisconsin to back-to-back Final Four appearances and took the team to last season’s national championship game, where the Badgers were defeated by Duke. He has posted a 357-125 record in 14 years at Wisconsin.

NCAA Basketball – Women’s – Maryland again looks like team to beat in Big Ten
Maryland quickly took command in its inaugural Big Ten women’s basketball season, and big things could be in store again. The Terrapins, unbeaten in conference play and a 2014-15 NCAA Tournament semifinalist, return three starters and add two top freshmen. Maryland went 18-0 during the 2014-15 Big Ten season, swept three conference tournament games and won a school-record 28 in-a-row until an 81-58 loss to Connecticut in the NCAA semifinals. The Terrapins lost All-Big Ten guard Laurin Mincy (13.5 points) while No. 2 scorer Lexie Brown (13.3) transferred to Duke. Ohio State is expected to contend with Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year Kelsey Mitchell, who became the first freshman to lead the nation in scoring last season.

Senior PGA – Texas’ Carl Cooper leads Senior PGA Professional
Carl Cooper shot a 6-under 66 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead in the Senior PGA Professional National Championship. Cooper, the 54-year-old PGA teaching professional at Humble Golf Center outside Houston, had eight birdies and two bogeys on the Bayonet Course, the site of the final two rounds. The top 35 finishers will earn spots in the Senior PGA Championship in May at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Michigan.  Cooper was disqualified from the event three years ago at the club. “I got disqualified for having an illegal wedge,” Cooper said. “It’s a long story, but this course kind of owes me. I deserve a little grace if it comes my way and I think I received that today. Hopefully, it lasts the rest of the week.”  Gene Fieger of Naples, Florida, the 2013 champion, and Chris Starkjohann of Oceanside, California, were a stroke back. Fieger opened at Black Horse, and Starkjohann at Bayonet.
